pickFreaking loved this book. This is Lamar's best book yet: tightly plotted and filled with well-developed characters. This turned out to be an incredibly quick read for me.

I'm finding Marco Beltrami's score to Logan provides a perfect musical accompaniment to Lamar Giles' Overturned. The book has some dark, grim elements to it, but balances that with wit and heart. I'm about a fifth of the way into this book, and it's been a lot of fun.

Chapter three does a nice job establishing Nikki's credentials as a legitimate, high stakes poker player. I also like how it lends cred to her father's reputation, too.

Two chapters into Overturned, and the stage is already set for lots of messy drama. Lamar gives Nikki Tate an easygoing voice that fits her age (16) while exposing the unnatural maturity that circumstance has forced on her. Good stuff.
