I completed the 2016 @bookriot Panels Read Harder Challenge. I enjoyed it so much I am gradually making my way through the 2015 Challenge. I am a little stuck on what to read for the Independent Publisher category, so I thought I would get advice from the ever wonderful Litsy community! I prefer to read this one in print. What are your recommendations? #comicbooks #panelsreadharder #readharder

Ellsbeth Here is a link to the 2015 Challenge if you want to check it out. http://panels.net/2015/01/12/panels-2015-read-harder-challenge/ 8y
Eyelit I am so doing this challenge - it sounds awesome! Thanks for bringing it to my attention. For independent... maybe Try one of the kickstarted backed comic anthologies? 8y

maximoffs What qualifies as Indie? Cause most comic stores divide into DC/Marvel and then call the rest indie. IF SO 8y
maximoffs And my all time favorite: 8y
Ellsbeth @steverogers That's a good question. I'd like to go deeper than non-DC/Marvel. @skrishna Do you have a definition for us? 8y
Ellsbeth @steverogers Those are good suggestions! I've read all of them except Peter Panzerfaust. 😃 8y
Ellsbeth @eyelit I'm having lots of fun with it! Thanks for the recommendations. I'll be sure to check those out. 8y
maximoffs @Ellsbeth ooh really? Then I shall dive deeper. Most of those are my go to non DC/Marvel recs. Peter Panzerfaust is AMAZING it's Peter Pan taking place in WW2 8y
maximoffs I'm not sure the publisher on this one but 8y

These are some of the graphic novels my librarians pulled for my class today. It's a Social Studies methods course and we talked a bit about using graphic novels in the classroom. We had thoughtful discussion, students generated good ideas, and books were checked out. I think it went well. I also gave them content related categories from the @bookriot Panels Read Harder Challenge from the last 2 years as an optional way increase their knowledge.

APLitlife I teach Maus in my Sophomore English class. Love it! 8y
Ellsbeth @APLitlife That's great! We had some good conversations about Maus, and it was checked out. 8y
Nebklvr How "graphic/violent" is this graphic novel? I have someone requesting WWII graphic novels but he is in 5th grade. Likes the Nathan Hale series. 8y
Ellsbeth @Nebklvr I think it might be a bit too mature for a 5th grader. I don't have anything off the top of my head, but @historycomics on Twitter is a good resource for such things. I'll ask him. 8y

Here is my August summary. I also read a good chunk of Dune, which is a bit of a brick (but worth it!), but I won't finish it with my book club until next month. #ReadHarder Category: Play! #PanelsReadHarder 2015 Retro Categories: Golden Age, Comics Journalism, & All-Female Creative Team. I am really enjoying both of these reading challenges. #augustphotochallenge @TheSpinecrackersBookClub

If I am going to read something for the Panels #ReadHarder retro 2015 Challenge category of comics journalism, it might as well actually be about journalism. This was a quick, but thoughtful read about the history of the media. I find myself thinking about the echo chamber a lot lately, and the book had some interesting things to say about that. #comics #panelsreadharder

This is a good read and I am partial to the artistic style. It is a captivating story and I look forward to reading the next volume. This is my choice for the Panels Read Harder Challenge 2015 (rewind) in the category of All-Female Creative Team. #readharder #panels #panelsreadharder
