The Holiness of God | R. C. Sproul
post image

“If we fix our minds on the holiness of God, the result might be disturbing.” I think Sproul was right. It‘s a heavy topic. But after a break, I‘m back into this book and looking forward to our next study group discussion. #readmorebooks #nonfiction #imlovingit

Mehso-so

The author did a lot of deep research into Dorothy Hale and the Café Society crowd. I respect that. It shows. But there‘s only so much material history about Dorothy to work with, so it felt like most of the book was finding ways to take what little concrete details exist and make the book out of that. One cannot deny that the show completely lost all of its cache once the final season aired. There are reasons for that, and the book gives you opinions and insightful information from all sides of the creative team to let you make your own determination. #amreading #bookworm #bibliophile #bookish #booknerdigans #bookblogger #tsundoku #greatreads #readmorebooks #coolgirlsread

I came away thinking of it as a quick peek into people‘s lives when the sun goes down. And how our natures change in the dark. Full review here: https://wp.me/p9KtkP-kq #amreading #bookworm #bibliophile #bookish #booknerdigans #bookblogger #tsundoku #greatreads #readmorebooks #coolgirlsread

At the heart of it, it‘s a coming-of-age story about a misunderstood girl. As such, the ending was unsatisfying to me. It left me wanting closure. But what was so unique was that I didn‘t expect one. The Age of Innocence | Edith Wharton

Pickpick

The specter of New York looms as its own character in the novel, and all of its citizens play their lives out so spectacularly. Wharton paints this wonderfully manipulative underbelly even while its inhabitants breed their discontent as it has been done for generations before. The idea of a federally funded unit being set up to eliminate books was an amazing premise. What‘s so shocking about the book is that it‘s not so much the government is a tool, but going along with what the people want.
