5 Stars • Ricochet by Kellyn Carni is a thrilling YA historical fantasy where Anastasia and Alexei Romanov, saved by a magical garnet, navigate an alternate 1918 Russia. Blending rich history with multiverse twists, the story shines with Anastasia‘s fierce loyalty and fast-paced plot, though secondary characters could use more depth. A captivating 5-star debut for fans of magic-infused history.

A look at the Grand Duchess Anna Feodorovna or Julie of Saxe-Coburg. She was known by both names. She decided to live life on her own terms after a terrible marriage to Konstantin Feodorovna.

5 Stars • Two words told me this was the book for me. #Romanov #JohnBoyne

"The House of Special Purpose" by John Boyne is a historical novel that intertwines the personal story of protagonist Georgy Jachmenev with the tumultuous backdrop of the Russian Revolution. Set in the early 20th century, the narrative follows Georgy, a young peasant boy who inadvertently saves the life of the Tsar's uncle ⬇️

suvata and is subsequently appointed as a companion to the Tsarevich Alexei. The story unfolds through flashbacks, juxtaposing Georgy's life as an elderly man in 1981 with his experiences during the fall of the Romanov dynasty. It explores themes of love, tragedy, and the impact of historical events on individual lives. 1y

My #bookedintime for the Russian revolution tells us little of the revolution but a good deal on the minutiae of the last days & weeks of the Romanov‘s. Clearly a passion project of research this is only a soft pick for me. the research sang louder than plot or character - this may be because the set up of the novel is a man in his 90s recording his memories of something that happened in his teens but the story loosing something in his voice

Cuilin #RussianRevolution ✔️🎉 sounds like an interesting read. 2y

#BookedInTime: Russian Revolution
February 2024
@cuilin @dabbe

This was a low pick, mainly due to the fictional parts of this book. The mystery and twist at the end didn't work for me at all, since I already knew the ending. I would recommend reading a nonfiction account instead.

dabbe On the spreadsheet! 🤩 2y
