The Alienist | Machado de Assis

Great book by one of the most important Brazilian writers of all times. It was written in 1882 but it still very actual. "Machado de Assis manages to show and explore human behavior beyond appearances, exposing with great irony all man's vanity and selfishness." #Sha2017

Despite many negatives reviews I've read about these prequel, I am really enjoying reading them. They really put me back in Dune Universe books I read so many years ago. I'll re-read the originals again and then maybe I'll see some difference in style that the "purists" write about. #Sha2017

Nice book. I feel the genre is more adventure than romance, and I loved it. Page-turner. #Sha2017

What a book! I've gotta a headache but it was worthy. A unique narrative by one of the best Brazilian writers. "The mystery of human destiny is that we are fated, but that we have the freedom to fulfill or not fulfill our fate: realization of our fated destiny depends on us. While inhuman beings like the cockroach realize the entire cycle without going astray because they make no choices." #Sha2017

Great novel by a talented young Brazilian author. It's set in Garopaba, a city in the south of Brazil by the beach. Despite the title, it's a poetic book beautifully written. #Sha2017 #BrazilianLiterature

First of all, the title in English is not good at all. A literal translation would be better, in my opinion: The distance of a rescue. This book by an Argentinian author is great. It has a unique structure and it's quite trippy what doesn't make you wanna give up, quite the opposite, it is a page turner. #Sha2017 #livro #book #bookaholic #booklovers #ler #leitura #leitora #reading #instabook #instaread #instabooks #bookstagram #litsy #booklover

Sha0102 "Early in the book, Amanda talks about “the rescue distance”, the variable safe distance between Amanda and Nina at any one time (the phrase is the original, and better, title of the book in Spanish)."(https://www.theguardian.com/books/2017/mar/24/fever-dream-by-samanta-schweblin-review) 6y

Better than the 2nd book but despite the fact that I like open endings that sometimes I get to decide the end, I really thought the author left too much without some explanation. I liked the environment issues, and some critic to our present society... but still 😐 #Sha2017 #livro #book #bookaholic #booklovers #ler #leitura #leitora #reading #instabook #instaread #instabooks #bookstagram #igread #litsy #booklover
