Easiest bingo I ever got! Started this book over coffee this morning only to get to page 5 of the introduction to see an underline. So I flip through, and yup, I already read this 🤦🏻‍♀️🤣 It is relieving to know that I at least remember read books once I start to re-read them.

Meditation in Action | Chogyam Trungpa

Pickpick

One might think I‘m a Buddhist by how often I read/listen to Buddhist texts and related topics. I‘m not. But I find a lot about Buddhism lines up with my personal philosophies. Or, at least, how I imagine my personal philosophies.

Meditation in Action is very accessible. I was able to follow along while working, and while not everything is new to me here, Trungpa is able to frame it in a way that makes it seem new. Def recommend for beginners.

While there are sometimes nuggets here that resonate with me, overall I find her writing opaque, circular, repetitive, and without a lot of practical application. DNF at 40%

This is a straightforward commentary on Shantideva‘s classic text on the way of the Bodhisattva. If you enjoy books by Pema Chodron, I welcome you to dig deeper into Buddhist wisdom with this text. Norman Fischer‘s zen interpretation of this work is also excellent. ☸️ I would have preferred a print edition, but I am rich in Audible credits, so audio had to do.

Read for my friend's online Yoga, Books, & Brunch Club. Discussion was on Sunday. Pic is of my Brunch Tray all prepped.

I really enjoyed Chapter 4 about when things go horribly wrong. And how we react to it.

In the middle it bogged down. Became to woo woo for me and I skimmed a bit. Finished reading last chapters. But all in all I liked the basic message of How We Live Is How We Die.

Kimzey I love the festive holiday china!

I've read parts of this before, but now seems like a good time to go back to it. There are some difficult things going on in my life right now, and I can use the gentle wisdom of Pema Chodron. #spirituality #Buddhism

Ruthiella Hope Pema can help. ❤️ I‘ve not read her but my sister is a big fan. 1y
DivineDiana I have this book, which I bought after Hilary Clinton lost the Presidential election. Sending good wishes to you. Time for a reread for me. ❤️ (edited) 1y
TiredLibrarian @DivineDiana I find her helpful. I think it's a book best dipped into a bit at a time, so you can digest her words before moving on, or revisited periodically. 1y

This is a Hail Mary or should I say a hail Pema !My mother still ill , I‘m stressed & depressed every day . Plates up in the air , Pema usually calms my mind & kicks out the chaos & stills my monkey brain. Another reason perhaps to have too many books…there‘s one when you need it.

Becker I also love reading Pema Chodrin. You can dip into any of her books at any page and find something comforting and inspiring. 2y
Smrloomis Sending your Mom good thoughts 💕 and glad this helped calm things a bit. Being human sometimes really sucks! 2y
