pickNormally, I don‘t listen to spicy novels as audiobooks. I am so glad I made an exception for this one. The dual narrators are fantastic. I loved the story here, and absolutely loved the building relationship between Apollo and Cassandra. I will be listening to the rest of the series. With headphones. 🫣 (Also, this my 4th 5 star book this month. They are so different. How am I going to pick a “favorite” for my bracket?!?)
pickIt brings me joy to listen to this audiobook around Christmas. I just love the thought of the whole world watching something amazing. I prefer the audiobook for this one because the ending has recordings from the mission including the astronauts reading from Genesis on Christmas Day.
I have one hour and 5 minutes left in my audiobook and my wish is to be done wrapping and I bed with my jolabokaflood by then.
pickThis is a terrific book - a narrative nonfiction history of the Apollo program told mainly through the astronauts. The book will win over jaded resistant readers and often keep us glued. The astronauts are super smart, but also foolish and emotionally distant.
One thing that struck me was the scale of the moonscape. Pike‘s Peak sized mountains outside the landers.

pickIf you‘re reading this for insights on the Apollo 13 mission don‘t. However if you want fun stories about astronaut training from a guy with a laid back attitude this is worth a read. I loved the stories about the different places they traveled to study geology before going to the moon. I also appreciated his thoughts about climate change at the end too.
My October pick for #12BooksOf2024 is Apollo 13, by Jim Lovell and Jeffrey Kluger. A fascinating, suspenseful read. I was inspired to watch the movie as well, and that was also great.

I will keep reading this series because they‘re a very good escape for me.
