Sure Signs of Crazy | Karen Harrington
post image

In honor of National Book Lover‘s Day, here is a bookish quote from one of my most favorite books of all time. It‘s the sweetest coming of age novel I have ever read, and every summer I laugh and cry my way through it like catching up with an old friend. To add to MC Sarah Nelson‘s astute observation here, I believe the best books, like this one, get better and better each time you read them. ☺️❤️📚

‪My summer is never complete until I‘ve read Sure Signs of Crazy by Karen Harrington, my most favorite coming of age story about a brave Texan girl who beats the summer heat and learns how to cope with crazy in her family. It‘s been an annual tradition for me ever since the book debuted. ‬

One of my all time faves. I think I fell slightly in love with Atticus Finch the first time I read this as a teen. #tokillamockingbird #atticusfinch

Harper Lee‘s father was given the Biblical name Amasa, derived from Hebrew word meaning “burden bearer.” According to the author, Amasa, like Atticus, carried burdens of family, church, community all his life. I am fascinated by all the detail included about A.C. Lee, a journalist, lawyer& politician, who wrote editorials & opinion pieces about local, national & world news. What wonderful resources to draw from!

2. Fave sci fi bks: #JaneHawk series by #DeanKoontz. (I don't read sci fi!) Fave feel good bk? #ToKillAMockingbird I was inspired to be a lawyer, in part, by #AtticusFinch! Congrats to @keys_on_fire: 2000 #Litfluence! 🎉🎈🍾🥂 #L2KGiveaway

JHSiess #ToKillAMockingbird is a feel good book for me because of its themes: Integrity, bravery, & doing the right thing -- which may feel bad in the moment but always, ultimately, feels good. 2y

Only joined Litsy 5/6 weeks ago so have read and loved plenty of books before joining but To Kill a Mockingbird was the first book I read where I completely fell in love with both the characters and the setting. It has stayed with me all this time (I read it when I was 14 and I'm now 41) and is one book I could go back to again and again.

Cinfhen Great choice!! Welcome to Litsy!! 2y
Songbird72 I read this in high school English. A great book. 2y
MidnightBookGirl Welcome to Litsy! I think I was the same age when I first read it (and then fell in love with the movie), and I still love it at 40 (although I don't think I can read Go Set a Watchman). 2y
ShookBelf I read when it came out and was so bitterly disappointed. Really not a patch on Mockingbird and although it didn't spoil my love for that book, I certainly wasn't pleased that I'd wasted a few days reading it! 2y
