"you never really understand a person until you've climbed into their shoes and walked around"
-Harper lee

When Atticus Finch says this to his children it really hit home. A very powerful quote.

My favorite coming of age novel, which I read every summer, about a Texas tween with an alcoholic father and a mother committed to a psychiatric hospital. It sounds grim, but it‘s actually a really sweet, uplifting story.🔸#augustreads2021

In honor of National Book Lover‘s Day, here is a bookish quote from one of my most favorite books of all time. It‘s the sweetest coming of age novel I have ever read, and every summer I laugh and cry my way through it like catching up with an old friend. To add to MC Sarah Nelson‘s astute observation here, I believe the best books, like this one, get better and better each time you read them. ☺️❤️📚

‪My summer is never complete until I‘ve read Sure Signs of Crazy by Karen Harrington, my most favorite coming of age story about a brave Texan girl who beats the summer heat and learns how to cope with crazy in her family. It‘s been an annual tradition for me ever since the book debuted. ‬

One of my all time faves. I think I fell slightly in love with Atticus Finch the first time I read this as a teen. #tokillamockingbird #atticusfinch

Harper Lee‘s father was given the Biblical name Amasa, derived from Hebrew word meaning “burden bearer.” According to the author, Amasa, like Atticus, carried burdens of family, church, community all his life. I am fascinated by all the detail included about A.C. Lee, a journalist, lawyer& politician, who wrote editorials & opinion pieces about local, national & world news. What wonderful resources to draw from!

JHSiess #ToKillAMockingbird is a feel good book for me because of its themes: Integrity, bravery, & doing the right thing -- which may feel bad in the moment but always, ultimately, feels good. 7y
