Pickpick

Was scrolling through Libby and saw this one. It‘s Rosa Parks and Nikki Giovanni how could I not spend 15 minutes and listen to it?
Children‘s book written by Giovanni that tells story of Rosa Parks and the Montgomery Bus Boycott.
The audio is read by Giovanni as well.
Loved it

This bothers me. This troubles me greatly. This feels just a little too MAGA for my liking. Peaceful protest is NOT violence by definition. Period. (Not saying everyone was peaceful, but to say that any entire movement is violent because some are is reductionist.)

kspenmoll Yes, she had some blind spots & old world attitudes towards people of color it seems. 1w
GingerAntics @kspenmoll is supposed for her time period, this was to be expected. 1w

Picking up where March leaves off, a blend of history and memoir of Lewis‘ time with the Civil Rights Movement. An incredibly important read.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

LoverOfLearning I recently read March the graphic novel #1. My friend picked it for bookclub. Was so interesting but wasn't for . 2w
LoverOfLearning Oops wasn't for me at this time. I don't tend to watch much in terms of news or politics so reading about it is tough for me. But... I do read a lot of non-fictions about the history of psychology and criminalization and racism. So I'd call that a win. 2w

During this blog we turn the Authors Spotlight onto Lukas Klessig and his book “Words With My Father: A Bipolar Journey Through Turbulent Times”.

Words With My Father offers a gripping portrait of the evolution of a young man's mental illness and how it manifested into a dramatic and often dangerous existence through the turbulence of the Civil Rights, Peace and Conservation movements.

p. 137: 'True peace is not merely the absence of some negative force - tension, confusion, or war; it is the presence of some positive force - justice, good will, and brotherhood.'
