Another TBR for another Feb readathon! This week is the #contemporaryathon , which means reading present-day realistic fiction, and no I don't know how I'm going to read books for all the readathons I keep joining, but I'm going to have fun trying.

Feb TBR! Planning on participating in 2 readathons this month (#contemporaryathon and #tometopple ) and picking up books relevant to Black History Month, as well as my usual mood-reading. #tbr
September reading wrap-up! Guys, I actually managed to read a lot of things this month! I finished 9 books, caught up on several stellar ARCs, participated in the #contemporaryathon , and read several books that are going to end up in favorites lists for the year. I honestly really loved everything that I picked up this month; everything was between 3.75 and 4.5 stars; faves were Sapphire Flames, Shame is an Ocean I Swim Across, & the tagged book.
Last month I read 14 books between #blackathon and #contemporaryathon, including many 4 and 5 star reads. Check out my reviews! https://youtu.be/dzuHRfVVpf0
This book is so important. I loved the complexity of the characters - yes, some of them were involved in dealing drugs or gang activity, but the main character comes to the decision that this doesn't make them bad people or deserving to die at the hands of those supposed to protect us.Her relationships with other characters were so dynamic and real.I especially loved her dad, Maverick-a great complex character defined by so much more than his past
4/5⭐ Chick-lit isn't usually my cup of tea 😜 but the promised aesthetic of a tea shop drew me in, and the feminism kept me there. This book is a lovely comfort read and absolutely delivered on the tea vibe. There was more depth and complexity than I expected, and Moon did a great job of promoting healthy relationships and demonstrating what they do and don't look like. #contemporaryathon
‘Your sister has organised for John to be out of the house for the next two hours. We‘re going to your place and we‘re packing three suitcases of your things. Then you‘re coming back to my house for two days, and I will feed you cups of tea, chocolate, ice cream and vodka on constant rotation as the mood necessitates. You can resign from your job when you feel ready.‘

3/5⭐ I often loved the truly beautiful, poetic writing that conveyed the character development and themes (family, love, rebellion, access to water, feminism, patriarchy, identity, etc). But that flowing, abstract writing often turned into more stream-of-consciousness passages (page-long sentences, really?) that were incredibly annoying to get through. Overall though I enjoyed what the book had to say and how it said it. #contemporaryathon
So you looked out across the deep waters, Robin said. And you decided, by yourself, and with the help of a clear night and some stars, which way was north and which was south and which way was east and which was west. Yes?
Yes, I said.
Then I said it again. Yes.

3/5⭐ I'm so torn. Half the book lost focus. The characters felt less like fully realized people than vehicles for the book's themes. At the end the complexity of the first 3/4 of the book fell off completely in favor of a constant "will they/won't they" romance I wasn't invested in. Read it for an eye-opening look at race across multiple continents, but not really for any interesting characters or plot. #blackathon #contemporaryathon #projectSAMS
