And there are the Sanderson twists that suck you all the way in. He still surprises me. I‘m shocked that I fell in love with this story. It really wasn‘t speaking to me in the beginning, but I‘m really glad that I kept going. This week‘s part is very short, but I‘m hoping it will give everyone some extra time to catch up.

Pickpick

This #CosmereBuddyRead one was slow in the beginning but of course like every Sanderson book I eventually cannot put it down! I love these new characters and am excited to be with them for many more books. As usual, I am left with more questions than answers but excited to see where he goes with this and to see more connections to the other characters! Can‘t wait for our discussion!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

JacqMac That was fast! Life got in the way and I had to put it down. lol But I‘m about to pick it up again. It was so hard to get into, but it‘s so good now. 6d
BarkingMadRead I‘m almost halfway through this one, a friend of my son recommended it to me last summer and I finally picked it up 6d

If you‘re having trouble with this one, just keep going. I‘m all sucked in now. Part 3 is where it all turned around for me. I‘m having trouble putting it down now. I‘m loving both Kal and Shallan‘s storylines.
#CosmereBuddyRead

Meshell1313 Same!!! I‘m also trying not to predict what will happen to both of them because I know Sanderson will do what I least expect. I‘m hooked now though- am super curious to see how this ends knowing it‘s a trilogy. I‘m excited to hopefully be with Kaladin, Shallan and our guy Wit throughout the next 2 books! There‘s so much more to Kaladin‘s backstory I know we are missing! 1w
JacqMac @Meshell1313 I‘m curious, too, but I also know he will surprise us. lol There are actually 5 Stormlight novels published and Sanderson says he has 5 more planned, so we are just beginning this journey. I hope there is a lot more Wit coming up, too. I really like him. 1w

Sanderson has me again. This one was harder to get into, but now I find myself not wanting to put the book down. #CosmereBuddyRead

It took me all week to get through this part. But I finally feel like a have a grasp on it all. It was a lot for my little brain to hold on to. And I‘m forever grateful that we didn‘t start with this one. I think my biggest question is, what happened that made Dalinar forget his wife so completely?
#CosmereBuddyRead

Meshell1313 Yes I totally agree that this one took longer to get into. I also finally feel after part 2 that I am getting it. My questions are who was Kaladin before he became a slave? And is Szeth some type of Kandra??? 2w
Roary47 I got two more days of teacher-ing and I‘ll start catching up. 🫠😬🫩 2w

JacqMac @Meshell1313 Interesting theory about the Kendra. Maybe…. 2w
JacqMac @Roary47 You can do it!!! lol Good luck. (edited) 2w
rabbitprincess Just finished Part 2! I liked seeing how the different stories are finally starting to connect. I got a bit restless, because Shallan‘s story is my favourite, but sitting with Dalinar for a while was rewarding. Also how cool is the spanreed! It reminds me of the LongPen 😂 3d
JacqMac @rabbitprincess It all starts to fit after part 2. I love the idea of a spanreed. My brain was all “they are texting!” lol 1d

I found this on Reddit. I guess it‘s not just me. I‘m finding it very helpful going into part 2, because there are even more characters. And it saves me from having to make my own. lol #CosmereBuddyRead

Andrew65 This is great, thanks for sharing. 3w
rabbitprincess Great find! I‘ll have a closer look after reading Part 1. Up to page 83 now 😅 3w
Meshell1313 Holy moly! 3w
Meshell1313 This is just what I needed! I‘m also Kaladin‘s #1 fan! 😉 3w

Part one. I had a busy week, but I managed to finish this part last night. I‘m not sure how I feel about it yet. But I could probably use a character index. Though I always tend to have trouble with fantasy names until I‘m about halfway in, so maybe that‘s just me.
#CosmereBuddyRead

rabbitprincess Yeah, from what I‘ve read so far (about 50 pages), I feel like there are more characters to keep track of than in Mistborn. I wonder too if the epic timescale makes everything feel bigger (the fact that 4000 years pass between the prelude and the prologue, for instance) 3w
Leniverse I needed to let Warbreaker settle for a couple of days before going into this, but I'll try not to fall a whole book behind again 😬😅 I have heard that this series is more challenging than Mistborn, but I'm prepared to take notes if need be 😂 Meanwhile, is everyone keeping an eye out for Hoid? 😉 3w

JacqMac @rabbitprincess Right? It‘s a big span of time. 3w
JacqMac @Leniverse Yes, I am. I spotted him already. lol And I might need notes, too. 3w
Meshell1313 Ok I totally agree! This one is harder for me to get sucked into. There are A LOT of characters who I am hoping will all get together at some point? I like your ideas about keeping notes. I‘m hopeful it will pick up soon as Sanderson hasn‘t disappointed me yet! Whose story line is your favorite so far?? 3w
Andrew65 @rabbitprincess 4000 years in the blink of an eye, or at least the blink of an page! 3w
Andrew65 @Leniverse I felt the same too, so I am not finished this section yet either but I have started! 3w
Meshell1313 @Andrew65 @Leniverse @JacqMac @rabbitprincess ok it took a minute but now I‘m hooked. I‘m in love with Kaladin and curious about Shallan. I also love how the beginning page of each part lets you know whose stories you will be getting. That chart @JacqMac posted is going to come in handy real soon! 💕 3w
Andrew65 @Meshell1313 Having a bit more trouble getting into this one, and only just finished chapter 5. @JacqMac 3w
JacqMac @Andrew65 @Meshell1313 It took me a bit to get into this one. I‘m hooked now. But it took me until Part 2 to really start to feel it. 3w
Meshell1313 @JacqMac yes exactly!!! 3w
Andrew65 @JacqMac @Meahekl1313 Good to know, and especially that it‘s not just me. (edited) 3w
Leniverse @rabbitprincess @Andrew65 @Meshell1313 @JacqMac We really get thrown into the deep end with a lot of confusing world building with this one! The other books I felt I had a grasp of the world pretty quickly, but not so here. I'm only up to ch.4 though, and I am very intrigued by Kaladin, so I'm not in complete despair 😂 3w
Andrew65 @Leniverse I‘m still struggling to get a grasp on everything and am on chapter 7. 2w
JacqMac @Andrew65 @Leniverse @Meshell1313 @rabbitprincess It does take a bit more effort. I like that I can see how his skills improved as he became a more seasoned writer. I‘m really glad we didn‘t start with this one though. I think a lot of people might have given up on him. lol 2w
rabbitprincess @JacqMac Haha I agree, Mistborn was much more accessible 😂 I can‘t remember, where did you find or how did you put together the reading order we‘re following? 2w
JacqMac @rabbitprincess I read A LOT of blog posts and Instagram posts. lol There are many list. I mostly followed this list though. It was the closest agreed upon order when I looked at everything together. https://thequilltolive.com/2025/02/03/cosmere-reading-order/ 2w
Leniverse Finally finished this first part. I've realised that it's not the characters or even the confusing setting, it's the lack of plot direction. In Mistborn we had overthrowing an evil god-emperor and saving the world, in Warbreaker it was preventing a war. Here there's just survival. Yes, there's some political shenanigans in the background that I'm sure will become important, but 180 pages in we don't actually know what the story is about yet. 2w
Leniverse I have to laugh at myself asking people to look out for Hoid, just to discover that that's exactly what is happening in the interlude 😂 Also, I'm getting serious Chosen One vibes from Kal. He should have been dead 100 times over. Clearly he has a Destiny.
@rabbitprincess @Andrew65 @Meshell1313 @JacqMac
2w
Meshell1313 @Leniverse oooh I think you hit the nail right on its head! Hang in there- I find it much better in part 2! 2w
JacqMac @Leniverse It does get better. I do think Sanderson‘s skill got better in his later books. You can almost see him getting better as you read. And yes, Kal clearly is destined for something important. 2w
rabbitprincess @Meshell1313 @JacqMac @Andrew65 @Leniverse I finally finished Part 1 yesterday! My favourite storyline so far is Shallan‘s. I cannot WAIT to see how she pulls off her objective (if she does). And I love the drawings, although they are a bit small in paperback. I like the small details that emphasize the otherworldliness: the chulls in particular. Crustaceans as pack animals! Wild 😄 1w
JacqMac @rabbitprincess I just finished part 3 this morning. I couldn‘t put it down. I find myself wondering what a chull tastes like. lol 1w
Meshell1313 @rabbitprincess Yes she‘s one of my favs for sure! I also am squinting to try and read all the tiny print in the drawings in the paperback version! 1w
Meshell1313 @JacqMac I also finished part 3! Can‘t wait for our discussion on Tuesday! It‘s finally at the I can‘t put it down place that I love about Sanderson! I‘m glad this book got there! 1w
Leniverse @rabbitprincess The drawings are making me wish I had a paper edition instead of kindle, so it's "nice" to hear that they are too small in the paperback as well ? I can't read the picture text at all, and I'm considering looking up the images online but I'm afraid of spoilers 1w
Andrew65 @rabbitprincess I‘m still playing catch up and on the second part. 1w
rabbitprincess @JacqMac Need to melt a LOT of butter for one of those 😂 1w
rabbitprincess @Andrew65 Same, I‘m a couple of chapters into Part 2. I may have a long bus ride tomorrow (have to go to a different office for the day), so hoping for some good reading time 😆 1w
Andrew65 @rabbitprincess Sometimes difficult to fit in around other commitments. 1w
JacqMac @Meshell1313 They are so pretty! 1w

I found a crossover! The storyteller that gives Siri (and us) the entire backstory to the realm. The name was nagging at me. The passage in the photo might not refer to events in The Final Empire, but there is a Hoid there. (Reading on kindle can be handy. I did a search on his name in the books.) He's the beggar-informer in book 1 who makes Kelsier angry enough to reveal more than he intended. And I think the one Vin decided not to approach in 3

JacqMac That is a great find! I didn‘t notice it. I think I have to pay more attention. Lol 4w
julesG Hoid pops up a lot. 😉 And that's from me who got a lot of background info from friends who love the series, but I DNF'd the first book. 😬 4w

I‘m back home, so I finally have my hands on my new books. I ordered these from Blackwells. I love Blackwells. They packed each book individually to protect them in transit. And they all match. That being said, at this size, there is no way I will be able to not crack these spines. lol
#CosmereBuddyRead

rabbitprincess Love Blackwells! ❤️ 4w
Bookzombie I saw a video of Elizabeth Wheatley showing how you can keep from breaking the spines on these big books. I don‘t have the patience myself. lol. https://youtube.com/shorts/2xf_zJqa39A?si=PKt-JtZGK0jnogBl (edited) 3w
JacqMac @Bookzombie Oh, that‘s good to know. I don‘t think I have the patience either. lol 3w

repost for @JacqMac:

My book arrived yesterday. After I left my house to visit my dad for a few days. Just three hours away. 🙄I did manage to get an ebook copy from the library to hold me over. It‘s a big one! I have decided to keep it divided by parts. I know that the last part is very short, but I think leaving it as is will give people time to catch-up. Or to read other things for a bit. But I‘m always open to suggestions.
