The next in our #cosmerebuddyread was this collection of short stories. I loved getting some missing chunks from books we‘ve read, but I also loved meeting some new characters who I hope we will see again in the future. I also loved his post scripts explaining each story and his intros to each solar system. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

JacqMac The postscripts are great! 2d

I‘m so glad I didn‘t have a problem with the short stories. I loved visiting these characters again. #CosmereBuddyRead

Meshell1313 Ok here‘s my thoughts: the Emperor‘s soul I loved! That stamp magic system was crazy! And I would love more of those characters. (edited) 2d
Meshell1313 The hope of elantris- cute little story about the children. I still liked being back there and getting that missing piece. 2d

Meshell1313 11th metal- I LOVED this glimpse into early Kelsier and how he trained to become a badass. 2d
Meshell1313 Allmancer Jack was hilarious and cute. 2d
Meshell1313 And finally Mistborn- I loved being back with Kelsier and Vin and getting this missing chunk. It filled in a lot of gaps and I loved the ending- the potential for him to come back! 2d
JacqMac @Meshell1313 I agree with all of this. I loved every piece he added to every story. I can‘t get enough of Mistborn. I‘m hoping for more Kelsier, too. 2d
Leniverse @Meshell1313 Agreed! I think The Emperor's Soul has been my favourite so far, although I loved all the behind the scenes in Mistborn stuff. I almost want to go back to the final book and compare some situations, look for hints of Kelsier 😂 And I'm happy to finally get some answers about the Cosmere! 23h

repost for @JacMac

I‘m not sure about this one. I tend to avoid short stories. I never like them. But maybe because they are connected I‘ll be okay. lol we are skipping White Sand. It‘s only short, but there‘s something about where it fits into the Cosmere. We will read it later. This reading order has worked so far, so I‘m going to trust it. #CosmereBuddyRead

Meshell1313 Ooh I love this! I trust you completely- you haven‘t steered us wrong! 1w
Leniverse I'm a bit scared that they're all named something System. Are we being treated to a whole collection of new magic systems? 😬😅 1w
rabbitprincess @Leniverse I‘m hoping the Rosharan one will just be elaborating on the Stormlight Archives magic system 😅 1w
rabbitprincess @Meshell1313 I agree, this reading order has been excellent! 1w

This was so much better than what I was expecting from his debut novel. I was a little worried going in, but it felt very much like Mistborn to me. I can‘t wait to hear what you all think. I‘ll be back later with next week‘s schedule. #CosmereBuddyRead

Meshell1313 I loved it when Hoid showed up! I love that little connection to all the Cosmere books. What did we think of this magic system? I felt this ending in particular was a little rushed- like he was trying to wrap everything up quickly. 1w
JacqMac @Meshell1313 I loved the Hoid part!! It was perfect. Not my favorite of the magical systems. I think we need a second book. lol I found the ending rushed as well. I guess that‘s why all the Stormlight books are so long. And I‘m okay with that. 1w

Leniverse I was wondering when Hoid would show up. He didn't have much impact here, however. He seems to be more actively meddling in later books. 1w
Leniverse I enjoyed this, but it's not as good as later books. Well, it's better paced than the Way of Kings 🤣 Seriously though, he recycled a lot of elements to better effect in Mistborn. And the magic system was basically just channeling the life force of the world. Spellcasting via sigils and glyphs. And tai chi. But I really appreciate him letting the MCs have a happy ending! I was worried for a while that they'd ALL die whilst saving the world. 😅 1w
Leniverse Oh. Just got through all the extra material in the 10th anniversary edition and found an extra scene with Hoid and a talking black sphere at the end. So nvm, he was clearly meddling, I just have no clue what he was up to (except trying to become an Elantrian) or why. 😂 1w
JacqMac @Leniverse He has such a way of killing everyone, I was a little worried, too. 🤣 1w
rabbitprincess Haha I nearly yelled HOID!!!! on the bus when he appeared 😂 I agree that the ending was a bit rushed. The first part was kind of slow for me but then it ramped up really quickly. With Hrathen, he very quickly establishes the thread of complex bad guys that I see in his other works. I definitely got more out of this by reading it now! 7d

Went to the bookstore today to buy a book for a colleague who is leaving my organization, and I decided I deserved a little treat too 😂 What a cute little book for the #CosmereBuddyRead ☺️

Hubby is on vacation and it‘s seriously cutting into my reading time. I‘m loving this one, but I have 50 pages left in part 1. I‘ll finish it today. Talk amongst yourselves and I‘ll be back later. lol #CosmereBuddyRead

Meshell1313 Ok what do we think of Raoden & Sarene? Curious to learn more about this magic system and what happened to the city! We‘ve been through so many magic systems already! 2w
Leniverse I wasn't sure what I expected going into this book, but the zombie protagonist really took me by surprise! 😂 I'm only about halfway through part one, but I'll catch up. It's very readable, but it definitely feels like an earlier work. And as a Norwegian I'm a bit weirded out by the religious zealots being from Fjorden 🤪 I wish he had changed some more location names when he changed Adonis to Elantris (info from the 10th anniversary edition) 2w

JacqMac @Meshell1313 I live Raoden and Sarene. I‘m hoping that they find a way to be together. I don‘t want him to stay dead. I‘m completely into the story now. (edited) 2w
JacqMac @Leniverse Not what I was expecting either. lol I also wasn‘t expecting it to be as good as it is either. 2w
Leniverse Ok, so I still haven't finished part 1, but Raoden reminds me of Elend. Just more extroverted and with less self-doubt. And Sarene is basically his female counterpart and they would make such a power couple! Surely there must be a way to repair whatever broke and ruined Elantris. I'm also really curious about the sentient blobs of light. I have questions about them 😂 2w
rabbitprincess It took me a little longer to get into this one. I‘m liking it now, but I can definitely feel the debut-ness and am glad we started with Mistborn 😄 Sanderson definitely has a knack for the “holy 💩” moments (me at the end of Part 1 with Hrathen) (edited) 1w

Another great Sanderson book! In this one the city of Elantris has lost its magic and instead houses the afflicted. I loved the Prince Raoden storyline and was rooting for his survival. I did think part 3 was a tad rushed- it felt like trying to tie up all the loose ends too quickly. Can‘t wait for the next in our #CosmereBuddyRead ! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

JacqMac You‘re fast. I‘m still trying to get through part 1. Hubby‘s vacation is sucking up my reading time. lol I‘m liking this one though. 3w
Meshell1313 @JacqMac once it picked up I couldn‘t stop. Lol. This was his first novel? 2w
JacqMac @Meshell1313 Yes. And I really wasn‘t expecting it to be this good, because it‘s his first. lol 2w

This one feels so small in my hands. Lol If anyone wants me to make the parts shorter, just let me know. Judging by how we have been doing so far, I think we can do this one in two weeks. #CosmereBuddyRead

JenlovesJT47 I wish I hadn‘t got so far behind. I‘m still on the first book but I do plan to finish it soon. ♥️ 3w
rabbitprincess Haha yes it‘s so tiny! My purse will thank me though 😂 3w

Leniverse Yes, let's go! We can always re-evaluate after the first week, if it turns out to be a slower read. 3w
Meshell1313 I‘m ready! Sad to leave Kaladin but I know he‘ll be back eventually! 3w
Sace Ohhh. I‘ve been reading this for a while. I‘m afraid to join though because there are so many other books that I have half read and I report back to work July 30th and that will seriously cut into reading time and and and…#fomo. But dang this is so small compared to his other stuff (I‘ve only read 2 Brian Sanderson books. Tress and a novella) 3w
JacqMac @Sace Feel free to join whenever. Just tag us and we will come back to discuss. Some of us fall behind occasionally. lol 3w
