Strange little tale from Dark Horse. I assume it‘s in translation?

Three young women are anime lovers but not allowed to join the campus anime club. Their love of the genre is immense which mandates ONE solution: DIY, girls!

It‘s fascinating how much hard work goes into anime creation from the mangakas particularly on tight time & resource budget.

Six volumes thus far.

Never watched the tv series. Is it any good? Or is the actor playing the Witcher just smokin‘ hot?

Comic was serviceable. Not the best antihero comic I‘ve ever read but if you like the show you‘ll surely like this too.

I shoulda been paying attention to who the publisher & artist is. Reminded me much of Mike Mignola Hellboy books.

Soscha Aah, Dark Horse, that explains the aesthetic they‘re going for. Didn‘t recognize writer or artist, in which case Dark Horse wasn‘t heavily pushing the series, if it is a series. AND I guess this isn‘t so much from a tv show but a play-me gamer series? 1w
Serotonin I watched the first 2 seasons on Netflix. It was good. Season 3 was sooo boring I gave up. Not going near season 4 😆 1w
Jari-chan I couldn't even finish season one 🙈 1w
Kenyazero I might have to pick this comic up! I loved the one game I played, hated the books (they‘re a bit sexist), and enjoyed the Netflix series. To answer your question, it IS a fun series on its own, but it probably helps that people think the actor is hot. I‘m on the asexual spectrum, so that wasn‘t a major draw for me 🤭 1w

I placed a hold for this graphic novel long before I knew “Midwest“ was gonna be a #WickedWords prompt, and up my hold just came! I'm only a bit into it, but so far it seems to be a stifling serial-killer horror GN set in a twentieth-century Ohio town in the grip of a cult.

This was such an odd little series. I read the first story as a stand-alone before discovering the collected edition. The tone is off-beat; the hunters are successful more by luck and circumstance than skill, even though they are advertised as “monster hunters extraordinaire.“ It almost has a comical sense to it, until the final story, which is bleak and tragic. The art was unique, but not something I particularly enjoyed.

An excellent take on vampire lore by gothic extraordinaire Mike Mignola. Lord Baltimore travels Europe on the hunt for the vampire that killed his family; the vampire he awakened during a battle at the height of WWI. Fueled by guilt and revenge, Baltimore's hunt is complicated by the rising of ancient evil throughout the continent.

Luke-XVX I love this series! 3mo
TieDyeDude @luke-XVX I have read a few of Mignola's one-offs, but I haven't read much Hellboy or B.P.R.D. so I'm really enjoying his world-building and lore. Diggin into Hellboy might need to be a 2025 reading goal :) 3mo
Luke-XVX There‘s a lot of gaps in my Hellboy reading but a lot of it is still enjoyable as standalones.I‘d recommend his Witchfinder series and if you can track it down, he did the art for the Dracula comic adaptation of Coppola‘s film (edited) 3mo

A lot of monsters get bloodily dispatched in a variety of ways, & there's slightly more of Geralt having baths than I personally thought was necessary (but others might have a greater penchant for those scenes than me 🛀).
While some of the monsters have tragic backstories, at the point Geralt meets them they are generally in his “deserve to die“ category, except in the Fox Children storyline, which is more nuanced.
There is some soul-searching ⬇️

Bookwomble ... about not addressing inter-human oppression, but as the conclusion of that side-arc is “it's not the business of a Witcher to intervene in human injustice“ and as this is illustrated by Geralt riding past a gang-rape, I didn't think it did him or the writer much credit. Otherwise, I thought they were well-presented stories which I enjoyed more than my review might indicate. (edited) 5mo

75/150 I didn't realise this was volume 2 going into it, but it was easy to pick up the story anyway. I also didn't plan to read another vampire story so soon after the last one, but this reminded me more of the old Universal monster movies of the 30s & 40s but with a bit more blood and gore. Very atmospheric artwork really set the mood for the story, and of course a cliffhanger ending to go on to the next volume. 3 ⭐⭐⭐💫

RamsFan1963 75th book finished for #Readaway2024 @DieAReader @GHABI4ROSES @Andrew65 I'm half way to my reading goal for 2024!! Woot! Woot! 5mo

Bookwomble I did the same thing - picked this out at the library without realising it was #2, but found it easy to get into. Pretty good story and artwork 😊 5mo

What a weird little book! 😂 Vampires and hunters converge in a small town hosting a satanic event.
