The Snow Child | Eowyn Ivey
post image

I'm a little late with this post but I'm really curious to see if anyone loathed these books as much as I did. I suspect my opinion is unpopular... #didntlikeitstillfinishedit #marchintoreading

Christy2318 I bailed on The Light Between the Oceans 100 pages in. Way too Nicholas Sparks' tragidrama for me & I really couldn't stand Isabel. The Good Girl was just ok. I haven't read the other two. 7y
8little_paws The good girl was awful. And fed into negative racial stereotypes.I'll never read that author again. 7y
Lindy Interesting! Three of these are books I've chosen not to read because I suspect they aren't to my taste. The fourth one I loved: The Snow Child. 7y

LeanneAslin I'm so glad someone else hated "The Snow Child" - I thought I'd love it, so I felt really deflated by the time I reached the end of it! 7y
Cinfhen I really LOVED Light Between the Oceans, started Snow Child but I was having Reading A.D.H.D. & quit after 50 or so pages. The others I have not read. 7y
KarenUK @Lindy same here!... 3 not read or on TBR, but loved The snow child 7y
Reviewsbylola I haven't read any of these I don't think. I have read one or two of Kubica's books I think and wasn't impressed bi won't be reading more. 7y
cariashley @KarenUK @Lindy I'm definitely in the minority for Snow Child - the rest of my book club loved it too! 7y
cariashley @LeanneAslin cheers to that. I was turned off by it pretty early on - I couldn't stomach the concept that a woman's life isn't worth living if she can't be a mother 🙄 7y
cariashley @Christy2318 it was gratuitous drama for sure. I skimmed the last 100 pages but it got even worse! 7y
cariashley @8little_paws Same!! It was pretty appalling. 7y
Reagan I loved The Light Between Oceans, but The Good Girl was really predictable, it was a bit of a disappointment. 7y
Megabooks Another Mary Kubica! Me too!! 7y
RealLifeReading The only one I read was Light and it was just a so-so read as it was just too dramatic for me. 7y
ItsAnotherJen Aw...I loved The Snow Child! I had zero expectations for it, sometimes I think that helps. I also didn't read what it was about beforehand..just picked it up and started it. I seem to enjoy books better that way. 7y
Bette I veered away from three, figuring I wouldn't finish or like them, but I did read The Light Between Oceans. I wasn't sorry I read it, but, I probably won't read that author again so something was off for me. 7y

Apparently I have a lot of books that fall in the category #didntlikeitstillfinishedit! #marchintoreading

Reviewsbylola I feel that way about every Kubica I've read. 7y
MicheleinPhilly @Reviewsbylola I've read 2 Kubica books and was 😒 on both of them. Thankfully they were both library books but I won't read her again. 7y
Megabooks @Reviewsbylola @MicheleinPhilly It seems a lot people feel like we do. How does she keep publishing?? 7y

Reviewsbylola There are some people that love her. I had a friend that texted me a few months ago gushing over one of her books, asking if I had read it. I tried to be nice about the fact that yes, I had read it, and no, I didn't feel the same way. 😂 @Ebooksandcooks 7y
Megabooks @Reviewsbylola 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 7y
octobre I also read this Kubica and really didn't like it. 7y
Megabooks @octobre Seriously, I've tried two and won't try a third! 7y

#marchintoreading #didntlikeitstillfinishedit at some point I thought, well, maybe the book will be better...NOPE.

zsuzsanna_reads I tried it twice and bailed on it twice. 7y

And I loved The Secret Life of Bees. This one, not so much, not at all. Yuck in fact. #didntlikeitstillfinishedit #marchintoreading

Reviewsbylola I read this and Bees and I don't remember loving either one. 7y

#didntlikeitstillfinishedit because it was a book club pick and it was a very fast read, but it irked me in so so many ways. I've heard her other books are better. Another #didntlikeitstillfinishedit was "ender's game," again short enough to give it a shot but nope, not for me. #marchintoreading

#marchintoreading This definitely my all time#didntlikeitstillfinishedit read. Had to read it for an American Lit class. It has an interesting plot if Melville would have just cut out all of the minutiae about whaling that added nothing to the story...as it was I think my whole class was traumatized by this one 😱

As a lover of books and literature I wanted to be able to hate these books with some evidence behind the hate. #didntlikeitstillfinishedit #marchintoreading

#Didntlikeitstillfinishedit #Marchintoreading I'm on fire: 4 out of 4 challenges so far this month 👍😁. I have enjoyed many Amy Tan books over the years, but this is not one of them. The only reason I finished it is because it was a book club read, chosen by my mum (sorry mum ❤).

RealLifeReading Woohoo! (Not the book that is, but the bit about the challenges!) 7y
tracy.m.ng Agree, overall decent book but sometimes I felt like it was really dragging. 7y
