There‘s a good chance husband and I will travel to England (to see family) and Ireland for a wee vacation before taking our daughter to study in Dublin. So of course I have to start reading all things Irish! So I‘m jumping in to a rather academic history.

Gissy How nice! 🤗 3w
kwmg40 How exciting! Good luck to your daughter. 3w

@Cuilin #bookedintime

I did it! This was a chunkster. Physical and audio helped me get through it. There are so many characters! It spans from 430 AD to 1500ish. I thought it gave a good look at pre Christian Ireland and the move towards Christianity, from tribal life and politics to the Crown. He did an excellent job keeping the characters individualized and I didn't have any trouble following along. I loved how women were represented 👇

ChaoticMissAdventures Throughout. They were strong, capable, and smart. There are a few scenes where the women really showed up that will stick with me for awhile (flashing a monk who decided to join the monastery instead of marrying you? Good for you Kayla!). I probably will not read the 2nd one but this was very good. I also liked how religion was spoken of. My only negative is I didn't always get as much of/closure on some characters as I would have liked. 1mo
Cuilin Congratulations 🎉🫶🇮🇪☘️seriously impressed. (edited) 1mo
Ruthiella Well done! 👏👏👏 1mo
marleed I read this last March - I was so proud of myself for finally getting to it - and then I really liked it! 1mo
ChaoticMissAdventures @marleed I was surprised how much I liked it! And it was really not difficult to read, even with the intimidating size. 1mo

#weeklyforecast I have the tagged on audio for #BookedInTime made a huge dent in it yesterday while doing chores around the house, and am really enjoying it. Once I finish it I have A Day In The Life of Abed Salama.
Picking away at the Women's Prize, started The Maiden and so far I am liking it more than I thought I would.

monalyisha I like your decor! Great curtains & chair (& cat 😸). 1mo

ChaoticMissAdventures @monalyisha @brittanyreads thank you!! I love these curtains, they were my big splurge from Anthropology when I bought the house. I need color to get me through the long Oregon grey days. 1mo

☘️Happy St. Patrick‘s Day! (We Boston Irish celebrate more than my actual Irish colleagues.) May the wind be always at your back, and the books be always on your nightstand. #stpatricksday

What a fantastic debut novel. This author is definitely one to watch for.

This book takes you into the lives of Irish Nuns and an orphanage. Also into the lives of twins Aelish and Isabel McGuire. What happens to them after they lost their home and their parents.

I didn‘t appreciate this the way that I should have; I didn‘t know I wasn‘t in the mood to be reading a romance until I was already committed. I also didn‘t know (or didn‘t remember learning) that it was part of a series with recurring characters. It could and did stand on its own but I think my enjoyment would‘ve been enhanced had I read the other books first. 👇🏻

monalyisha 1/1: That being said, how could I not enjoy an emotionally rich love story set in the Irish countryside that includes a belligerent bull accidentally drunk on sangria? TW: abandonment, dementia, grief, loss. 2mo

A MUST READ!!

A bombing that killed their parents in 1941 in Dublin put twins Isabel and Aelish in an orphanage run by nuns.

Isabel was rebellious and Aelish was compliant.

Isabel escapes, but Aelish remains and becomes a nun.

A heartbreaking, heartfelt, beautiful book.

♥️ You will LOVE the characters and miss them when you turn the last page. ♥️

The great February book haul: because daughter was just accepted to a study abroad program with her university. She‘ll be going to Dublin to study Irish literature in August. So of course I have to read up on all things Ireland.

Bookwormjillk Fun! Good for her! 2mo
Cuilin Amazing 🤩 where in Dublin? UCD, Trinity? 2mo
Texreader @Cuilin I‘m not sure. It‘s through her university here in San Antonio, Trinity (no relation to the one in Dublin). When she studied in Rome, the school had its own classroom and the teachers came from Trinity. From what I can tell it‘s the same. Her itinerary looks amazing!! 2mo
Cuilin @Texreader that does sound amazing. I was born in Dublin but grew up mostly in Cork. Will you get to visit her? 2mo
