So I read back a thread from @Shortstack and some others I will tag. It made me think of one of my favorite movie moments. YouTube link: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=zemrWBIc_hE

BookishFeminist @Ebooksandcooks I've never seen it! 8y
Beckys_Books I still watch this movie every time I find it playing on TV. 😍 8y
becausetrains @Ebooksandcooks man, you brought it back. I haven't seen this movie since shortly after it came out! (But yes, very good from what I remember.) 8y
Megabooks @BookishFeminist You must see it! Maybe you and @becausetrains can rent it one night. 8y
Megabooks @Beckys_Books It's a modern classic, and I think that is my favorite part. 8y
Shortstack And now I want to rewatch this. Thanks. 😂 8y
Megabooks @Shortstack Do it!! 😃 (I'm an enabler. 😉) 8y
Shortstack @Ebooksandcooks I love his distinction between the right to say what you want and the views of outsiders of the things you say. One of the big items in the quote I posted missed that. She has the right to say hurtful things to other people, no one will lock her away or fine her for it, but the laws won't protect society's perception of her if she is unapologetically hurtful to others. 8y
DoodlesDistractions Hands down one of my favorite movies! 8y
becausetrains @Shortstack 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 nor will it protect her from having hurtful things said about her (not that I want anyone to sink to her level - better to raise the level of conversation.) 8y
Yamich49 OMG I love this movie so much. I've lost count of how many times I've watched this with my mom in the many years since it came out. Great speech too and super relevant to our #litsyafterdark convo from last night. 🙌🏽🙌🏽 8y
LeahBergen Yes! 👍🏼👍🏼 8y
BookishFeminist @Shortstack 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 having the right to speak about and say certain things doesn't mean what you say is consequence-free. This also applies to the trolls that love to bring out free speech as a defense every time they say something hurtful. A) free speech usually doesn't apply unless the government is involved, B) lots of exceptions to that rule, C) that doesn't mean you don't have consequences that aren't censorship! 8y
BookishFeminist And yes @Ebooksandcooks, I think we will have to rent it sometime! I've never been much of a movie person but I will have to make an exception for this one 👍🏼 8y
Megabooks @Shortstack 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻 You perfectly put into words why I shared this speech. 8y
Megabooks @doodlesreads It's so great I own it on Amazon and DVD! 8y
Megabooks @Yamich49 I've lost count, too. I own it on Amazon for my Roku and on DVD! 8y
Megabooks @BookishFeminist My BFF from college is a first amendment lawyer! Anyway, I'm very proud of the work she does. 👍🏻 8y
