Mehso-so

Not the best Cold Fury Hockey novel - I skimmed through most of it.

So finally they scratched that itch! 👏
And it was high time! He was hot & cold throughout the first ~70% of the story, and she kept getting disappointed by the mixed signals he was sending. But once they got into it, they spent about 4 chapters in bed. FOUR FREAKING CHAPTERS! Do I need to read about all the sex for this long? Short answer is - you guessed it - NO.
Gonna skim through the rest. So ready for this to be over already.

Read this one a while back. Not as good as the earlier Chicago Stars books, but still a solid read with laugh-out-loud moments.

I've read the Cold Fury Hockey series by this author and quite enjoyed them. However, I'm having a hard time with one.
In the few chapters that I have read, the male character comes across as a little bit chauvinistic, and the female as someone without a backbone. She needs to be pushed out of her comfort zone, but I'm not very happy with the way in which he's trying to accomplish that.
Highly rated on GoodReads though!

That-Bookish-Hiker I almost bought this last night because I love the Cold Fury series. I'm glad I didn't now. 7y
reading.in.brussels Ah but please don't make that decision based on my review only! You might want to check out the reviews on GoodReads as well 😊 7y

The Bollywood Bride | Sonali Dev

It's never a good idea to start reading a book, that you know is going to be fantastic, just one hour before your usual bedtime. I'll get only three hours of sleep before I have to get up for work, but staying up to finish reading The Bollywood Bride was totally worth it.
Heartbreaking, angsty, beautifully written - Sonali Dev knows how to spin a tale! Highly recommended.

I read this in a few hours - loved the banter between the characters and the no-nonsensical way in which she dealt with him. He was a douchebag, true - but one that you'll love!
Reminded me a little bit of Hayley and Nathan from One Tree Hill.

I don't get all the hype about this series. This book wasn't that bad, but it wasn't that great either. Might/might not read the rest of the books in the series. #theivyyears #imagefromtheweb

EloisaJames I really loved reading about a heroine with a serious disability. Plus I loved that she very logically told him how she was feeling, without a lot of self-pity, and banished him. I just really liked her. 7y
reading.in.brussels Yes, she's a very strong character, I think even stronger than he is. I really appreciated the way in which she dealt with her hardships. Both of the lead characters are fine on their own - however, I felt a certain lack of chemistry between them, which is why maybe I didn't like it as much as other people. 7y

☡ Warning: rant ahead.
Over the last few years, there has been more of an "openness" about both reading and writing sex scenes. The taboo doesn't exist anymore. Some people might call that progress.
But here is my problem: what the hell happened to the actual storyline?! Please don't write about characters spending all their time between the bedsheets and sell that as romance. That's not romance, that's porn.
/rant over.

Euhm, there IS such a thing as too many sex scenes. At least, for me, there is. The first few chapters are only about that, with not much else happening. So yeah, that's me bailing on this book!

AnnieReads I'm not a prude but my romance reads need to have a storyline. There are so many authors out there who write romance well: Jill Shalvis, Julia Quinn, Mary Balogh, Kristan Higgins, Julie Anne Long, etc. Lots of people rave about Belle Andre but the 2 I've read lacked a good story and just seemed like porn to me. 7y
reading.in.brussels YES! I completely agree with you - and I think we have the same tastes in this category of books. I haven't read many/any books of Mary Balogh and Julie Anne Long, but I'm a fan of all the other authors you have listed. And I remember bailing on one of Belle Andre's books. 7y

I had no patience for the too-sweet, squeal-y, giggling heroine. I'd prefer a kick-ass and blunt female character.
