After we watched Manhunt on AppleTV, I realized I didn‘t know much about Lincoln‘s assassination. I turned to O‘Reilly‘s book because of its perceived simplicity. His book reads like a thriller, as intended. But in the end, I need more details - not the glossy, easy narrative style he uses. Finally, his character flaw as conspiracy theorist in the media is on full display here as well. I‘ll need a better book to satiate my historical needs.

Great fun. I was babbling on about this at one point near 40-50% the way through like I was about Poor Things. I did not expect to like it this much.

TieDyeDude The author did an excellent job with this. I have Bloody Crimes, a companion/sequel, but I haven't read it yet. 7mo
tokorowilliamwallace Yes, it was a compelling narrative by audio. I was struck by the hysteria and mob the assassination caused in Washington. John Wilkes Booth was kind of both a delusional and tragic, cursed figure from what he considered himself and realized. It has me interested in the book on the hunt for the Confederate president and the conspiracy to kidnap the president, the latter of which is available for sale at my library. 7mo

Think I saw this on Litsy, sounded interesting. Audiobook is narrated by Richard Thomas, aka John-boy from The Waltons. He was a great narrator—added some drama & suspense that I may not have gotten in reading the book. Enjoyed the story, learned some history.

This was well written and well done. Great insight and research of historical facts. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in US history.

If you‘re looking for a book that follows the spiritualism of just Lincoln and JW Booth, you‘re not really going to find it here. If, instead, you are interested in reading about the influence of spiritualism on the Lincoln family and the Booth family, as well friends, then this is the book for you. Some of the stories I knew from other readings; others I did not. Overall, I was fascinated by Alford‘s examination of the beliefs ⬇️⬇️⬇️

Librarybelle 🔼🔼🔼 of those tied to the families. Towards the end of the book, Alford really explores more of friends‘ interactions with spiritualism as well as nefarious deeds they commit, which kind of veered away from the spiritualist focus of most of the book. Finished this morning with all of my guys with me… #Zeke #Vladimir #SebastianKitty #Xander #CatsOfLitsy 2y
