I needed a super-fast read and a palate cleanser…Charlie and Diesel were the perfect choice!

A nasty, cruel boss, terrible department heads, and murders keep Charlie and Diesel pretty busy at the library. Sad to say a few characteristics of the murder victim are characteristics I witnessed in my library career. Yikes! Great character progression, and another good series entry!

Most of my sidekicks hovered in the background as I finished it.

Who would have thought a mysterious letter would cause so many issues??? Nancy breaks a postal regulation, is followed and attacked, and also has an altercation with a woman. Plus, she has to cheer on Ned at the football game! I‘m so loving the #NancyDrewBR ! Discussion on the 15th!

Bookwormjillk I gave up on my library and bought a kindle copy today. Looking forward to diving in. 5mo

Mehso-so

Admittedly, I almost stopped reading this one after the first couple of chapters - the actions of the main character just completely baffled me, and the response of those actions by law enforcement seemed completely wrong. Cozies are not meant to be real life, but this seemed over the top even for a cozy. The narrative did get better as the story progressed. Lots of suspects and mystery elements, plus a secondary mystery. ⬇️⬇️⬇️

Librarybelle ⬆️⬆️⬆️The ending was pretty dramatic, a true nail biter. So-so read in the end for me. I received a copy of this from #NetGalley , so thanks to NetGalley and the publisher, and I had found a physical copy of the book along the way. #Zeke and #Xander are clearly ready for bed! #CatsOfLitsy 5mo

KadaGul Ceto, Display Picture, she does the same thing. When I'm reading 📖 bed 🛏️. First, she wants to rub her body, to claim the book 📖 , every corner of the book. Then be right up the book 📖 like she can read it. The first 30 minutes go by, settling, and then the rest of the time is spent between her getting into a comfortable position and me comforting her. 5mo

Mehso-so

Nearly a pan read for me, but nudged up to a so-so, as I was curious how this would end. Think Austen with magic…in this case, skilled artisans practice glamours to manipulate the setting. I felt so bad for Jane, the MC, but at times her nearly martyr stance got on my nerves. Nearly everyone else was horrid.

I‘ve had this for years on my Nook app; thanks to #PemberLittens #JaneAdjacent for finally getting me to read this.

I just spent a month at Manderley…

This is a reread for me, and while I did not remember every twist and turn, I do remember the creepy vibes from this. It‘s a level of creepiness that slowly enfolds the reader and can make one shiver. That Mrs. Danvers…oh my! I loved it and am glad it was a #PemberLittens #HashtagBrigade read! #192025 #1938 #52BookClub24 #AnAbruptEnding

#Zeke #Vladimir #SebastianKitty #Xander #CatsOfLitsy

BarkingMadRead It was really creepy, esp Danvers! I don‘t remember that really bad scene from the first time! You‘d think it would stick, but it didn‘t 🤣 6mo
TheAromaofBooks Same!! It was a reread for me as well, but I was surprised at some of the scenes/details I'd forgotten. 6mo
Librarybelle @BarkingMadRead @TheAromaofBooks I know! Maybe it was Manderley‘s spell…we just could not remember all of the bad. 😂 6mo

I did it! While there were chapters that I did not understand the significance of, I overall liked this novel. I know, unpopular opinion! Dostoevsky examines good versus evil, religious ideology, love and hate, and family. There are the struggles to conform to a given mindset, to break away from familial ideals, to resist temptation. Dostoevsky longwindedly dissects religion - what is belief, what does it mean to follow the church, and, through ⬇️

Librarybelle ⬆️…the eyes of Aloysha, how to live a life with the church‘s teachings. There, of course, is the murder, so as the book progresses, there‘s also that underlying thought on justice. What is justice? During the trial, the long chapters from the lawyers provide a very in depth look at interpretations of justice. They‘re long, but also remarkable in the way the facts are twisted and manipulated for the spectators. I‘m glad I read this, as it‘s been ⬇️ 7mo
Librarybelle ⬆️…on my tbr. Russian literature is intimidating, and anytime I read it, I have to be in the right mindset…it can get so dark and dense so very quickly. This was my first time reading Dostoevsky; I‘m not going to run out and read Crime and Punishment anytime soon, but I will some day! Thanks to #PemberLittens and our fearless #HashtagBrigade leader @BarkingMadRead for taking us through daily. While I liked this, the daily chapter reading was ⬇️ 7mo
Librarybelle ⬆️…exactly what I needed to power through the book. Let‘s just say I read a good portion of War and Peace and lost momentum…I need to get back to it! Pro tip: this is probably not the best book to read upon waking up, but yet I did. #Zeke and #Xander gladly kept me company, as they are in this photo. #CatsOfLitsy 😁 7mo

batsy Nice review! This is one of my favourites, but it's incredibly dense 😅 C&P moves along at quite a fast pace at times, so definitely not as dense as this one (but still pretty dense, it is Dostoevsky after all 😂) 7mo
Librarybelle Thanks, @batsy ! I‘ll get to C&P one of these days!!! 7mo
BarkingMadRead I think it was way too long, and often ridiculous, but I didn‘t mind it. It just took for freaking ever 🤣 7mo

Billypar Long road indeed! 👏 👏 👏 👏 I second @batsy 's contrast between TBK and C&P. I read both a really long time ago, but C&P was like a thriller at times, which couldn't be further from TBK. I also really liked Notes From Underground, which isn't much like either of the others, so I guess he liked to switch things up? 🤷🏻 7mo
Librarybelle @Billypar Thanks for the info! I‘m unfamiliar with Notes from Underground, so I‘ll have to investigate that. Maybe I‘ll make it a point to read C&P next winter…it might be a good book to read during the dark evenings! 7mo

Celebrating International Women‘s Day by playing catch up on this month‘s #SundayBuddyRead .

There‘s a lot of info, but Lessing has a way of presenting the story as if the reader is there. I won‘t have section 2 complete by Sunday‘s discussion, but at least I‘m making progress!

Xander is my reading buddy tonight. #Xander #CatsOfLitsy

For tonight‘s #hyggehour , I lit a Yankee Candle (current scent - Candy Apple, and I began with a 5 minute body scan through the Calm app, then nestled under my weighted blanket to read Argylle. Definitely not what I expected so far - though I had some suspicions on that, given reviews I‘ve read. Xander joined me, and my other cats are nearby. #Xander #CatsOfLitsy

This was a fun romance with layers of humor & danger, not to mention some heavy topics. I liked Cohen‘s weaving of Austen novels into the story. There were times Vicky drove me a little crazy, but given the situation she faced from her family - having to #BiteTheBullet and marry - I‘ll give her a little leeway. Very charming. Thanks for hosting, @StayCurious ! #PemberLittens #JaneAdjacent

My January #BookSpinBingo board - no bingos, but the best I‘ve ever done with completing squares!
