lil1inblue @Cuilin The angry-sad-disappointed cycle is exhausting. 🫂 5d
dabbe @lil1inblue Ovid? Shakespeare? Chaucer? WTF? @Cuilin: your comment reminds me of a PEANUTS comic strip where Linus says: “I love humankind. It's people I can't stand!“ Such truth in that. 🧡💜💛 5d

This poem is one of the reasons that this book was often banned in the 90s. Sigh.

#poemadayish #poetrypals #bannedbooksweek #letfreedomread @dabbe @cuilin

Deblovestoread Brought a smile to my face. I‘d rather dry the dishes than go to the store every time. 😂 1w
dabbe Beyond my comprehension that this book would ever be banned. Sigh. L🖤VE the poem! 💛💜🧡 7d

lil1inblue @cuilin @dabbe @anncrystal The link is from the author's blog, where she explains how the poem came about. The last paragraph is interesting: "I consider that empty space at the poem‘s end as merely the beginning. It represents the place where you and I choose either to speak up or be silent on behalf of a free and inclusive society -- ⬇️ 1w
lil1inblue where we choose either to act or do nothing in defense of those who would be punished for merely being and expressing who they are." 1w
AnnCrystal @lil1inblue that's lovely, thank you for sharing this extra bit of info. This gives a whole new dimension to that last line ✊🏼🥲💙. 1w

Pickpick

WHOA! I was not prepared for the BRUTALITY of this book nor the extremely graphic sexual abuse depicted. Just heartbreaking. Absolutely gutted by this book. I can‘t say I “enjoyed” reading this one, but it‘s definitely a powerful piece of writing. Does this belong in a classroom? I‘m not sure it‘s right for every student but it certainly is the RIGHT place to explore the themes of poverty, inequality, cruelty and damaging beliefs.

CarolynM Great review💔 Hope you are well, Cindy😘 2y

Reggie There is a passage about a sofa in here and what it means to that family that I always think about. It‘s a rough book but my god, her writing! 2y

Cinfhen It‘s really a difficult read @TrishB but im glad I finally picked it up. 2y
TrishB @CarolynM ♥️ it‘s so hard. Thinking of you and the family. 2y
Centique This is the most brutal book ive ever read but i do think an experience like that needs to be captured by an amazing author - and Morrison is exactly the right author to make it horrifying but also human. 🙌 2y
