Boring. There was no spark. Lots happens but without suspense or drama being allowed to build. There‘s no sexual tension between the two characters who supposedly are falling in love. Absolutely no one is capable of direct communication, and world building by the author was weak. Would have bailed but I needed this for my ‘set in space‘ square on #lgbtqbookbingo2021.

This is popular with many people but I‘m glad move on to something else.

I‘ve made it to a blackout bingo on the LGBTQ bingo I started this year. I‘ve been enjoying seeing what everyone else is reading for the prompts, and look forward to seeing more book choices in the coming months. The relatively low rating is entirely due to my personal response to the book and nothing to do with the quality. I read this picture book as part of the #lgbtqbookbingo2021 challenge. I'm not usually triggered by a female immersive experience any longer but this one was challenging, surfacing some nearly forgotten feelings (pre-transition/medical intervention).

A sapphic retelling of a Sleeping Beauty.

A retelling from the villain‘s POV is difficult to pull off, and Malice really succeeds here. Alyce deals with microaggressions from her fellow Graces and institutional constraints placed on her because of her magic. The entire realm believes her to be evil and monstrous. And she just wants to belong.

And the ending! Fast paced and intense! Just enough cliffhanger to get me stoked for book 2! 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑
