And finally, @Centique , @Oryx and anyone else who wants to read about adventurous women travellers, Mummy Squirrel says why not try an anthology first?

Most of the chapters are short extracts from longer books so, if you see something you like, you can then read more by the same intrepid author!

Oryx Please thank mummy squirrel for all the recommendations! Sound really good. I love the hashtag. It should be a thing! 5y
Centique Yes please Thank mummy squirrel from me too! 5y

At Home in the Himalayas | Christina Noble

#mummysquirrelrecommends post 3 of 4

Christina set up a trekking company in the Himalayas in 1970 which, of course, was an adventure in itself, but then came marriage and children too....

Isla Blair writes of her childhood in India but then also of being sent to boarding school in Scotland at the age of just 6...

Arabian Sands | Wilfred Thesiger

#mummysquirrelrecommends Post 2 of 4

Some more adventure books @Centique and @Oryx .....

My Father‘s Island is a story of a family who fled Nazi Germany to find wild horses and shipwrecks on the Galapagos. Johanna returns after her father passes away to learn more about her past.

Thesiger spent 5 years roaming Arabia from 1945, learning about and writing about the vanishing life of the Bedouin.

LeahBergen Thesiger‘s The Marsh Arabs is fantastic, too! 5y
Centique Wow, those are great thank you! 5y

Here, for @Centique , @Oryx and for anyone else who likes non-fiction travel / wilderness books, are my Mum‘s favourites....

I‘ve read Namma, the story of a British woman living the life of a nomad with her Tibetan husband; I thought it was fab

I posted about the Isabella Bird yesterday, and Margaret Fountaine was born in 1862 and spent her life travelling the world chasing butterflies (and men apparently!)

Centique This sounds perfect for my dad - thank you! 5y
