#nbapoetry2019 I found these poems rather strange. I liked a few, but for many of them I felt like I was reading the random thoughts of a very eccentric person. That might work for some, but it was not for me. 3⭐️

#nbapoetry2019 Be Recorder is a collection of poems about contemporary America, consumerism/capitalism, and what it‘s like being the child of Latin American immigrants in America. Great form and use of language. One of my favorites from the shortlist. 5⭐️

#nbapoetry2019 This was a short, very quick, and enjoyable read. These poems are lovely little meditations, almost prayer-like. 4⭐️

#nbapoetry2019 Despite my appreciation for the word play and structure of the poems in this collection, I often found reading them a chore. I just couldn‘t connect with much of what was here. 3⭐️

#NBApoetry2019 This poetry collection is a lament about the environmental state of our world. Written based on the author‘s walks in the areas around his home, it includes many observations on the natural world and the damaged state of the environment. A powerful collection. 4⭐️

#Hoopla #NBApoetry2019 There were a few poems here that were great. Poems on the Zimmerman trial and teenaged confusion were affecting. Many of the poems, however, felt flat. Overall, a collection that was a bit uneven. 3⭐️

While it seems that Sze was writing about transformation and impermanence, I often felt that the lines of the poems were somewhat random and didn‘t give a clear impression of the the author‘s meaning. Longlisted for the 2019 National Book Award for poetry. 3⭐️
