Les Misérables | Victor Hugo

I can handle lengthy descriptions of war, convents, and Paris geography, but reading about Cosette and Marius falling in love might be my Waterloo. 🤢 #notaromancereader #ihaveacoldblackheart 🖤

britt_brooke 😆 I‘m reading the same section now. 6y

GingerAntics Wow, is it that bad? I‘ve seen several productions of it, including one movie (not the most recent one), but I‘ve never read it. 6y
merelybookish @GingerAntics I find it pretty shlocky, stereotypical love at first sight story. One glance is all it takes. It doesn't happen that Hugo's female characters are pretty one dimensional. Fortunately there's other stuff interspersed. Still, my gag reflexes have been triggered. 😂 6y
MemoirsForMe 😂😂😂 My eyes are rolling and my head is spinning. Those two are over the top! 6y
merelybookish @UwannaPublishme Indeed! Glad I'm not the only one! 😂😂 6y
GingerAntics Oh no. No no no. That‘s bad. 🤣😂🤣 6y
CareBear It‘s my least favorite part of the story. 6y
Kalalalatja I haven‘t gotten there yet, but now I‘m a bit scared 😄😄 6y
Moray_Reads I enjoy Marius when he's with the ABC club but I hate Marius and Cosette together and I hate them more and more as the story progresses. The shallowness of Cosette's character is irritating and unfortunately gets worse before the end 😠 6y
merelybookish @Moray_Reads Cosette is a cipher. She just exists for men to love. The love story is the weakest part of the story. It's SO good otherwise, but this part is so vacuous. Hugo's writing, which I quite love, gets worse when he's describing their love. 6y
