Years ago I saw the author of this book on a tv show with his daughter talking about how this idea came to be. I was impressed & wanted to read more about it. They believe that if you give away half of what you have those who have little can have more. It is a good & thought provoking story but the book itself didn‘t impress me as much as the family did when I saw them on tv.

What We Owe the Future | William MacAskill

Pickpick

A meaningful, hopeful call to action about leaving the world a better place than we found it. MacAskill convinced me that even the smallest actions that I‘m taking now can help make a positive impact on future lives. I mistakenly assumed this was solely about climate change; that‘s a big section, but this covers much more and was surprisingly philosophical. I often consider my kids‘ futures, in thoughts and actions, so this really spoke to me.

There are 2 Carnegie libraries in Vermont, one in Burlington & one in Montpelier. This one is in Montpelier, the capitol city of the state. The back of the building has been renovated & is quite stunning but my phone died as I tried to take the photo. I walked around this small city yesterday and was delighted to see it was still full of long haired folks, many of them gray haired, & young hipsters. Definitely worth a visit if you haven‘t been.

DivineDiana I have a desire to visit all the Carnegie Libraries! Need to start my quest! This looks beautiful! ❤️📚❤️ 9mo

Very interesting to learn more about Melinda Gates. Her passion and purpose are undeniable in this book. It was heartwarming to see her use her platform for good and to be willing to stand up for what she feels is right.

The name Melinda Gates carries power. Her goals are clear: to move the world forward, we have to lift women up. Gates has traveled the world seeing this in action firsthand, studying how some of the most simple solutions can completely change centuries old mindsets. Family planning, education, investment, and equal partnership with men are all ways Gates has changed the conversation for women.

This was surprisingly good. I might be biased because I am in a period of transition for my career, but I found this fascinating. I don‘t hate the narrative of a rich white guy who gives up his big money job to run a charity focused on building libraries and I enjoyed the insiders look at fundraising. I found the description of academics sadly accurate, and I can‘t believe how much money some people have. It‘s just wrong.

My list of books I read in 2022. Quite a short one. 26 books in total. I'm still happy with what I read last year. Really enjoyed many of them! 😍
