I have decided to start #projectwoke for myself. Whatever else I'm reading, I commit to be reading something that helps me understand better what it's like to live as a person of color in this world and this country. Books may be fiction or non. Suggestions and companions are welcome.

BookishShelly Jam on the Vine is great for showing the current problems for black people are not new and how bootstrap theory is difficult when racism is involved. Historical fiction with notes in the back to show which details actually happened. 8y

Mayread Oh! Also Coates was at the Lapl in conversation w Robin D G Kelley from UCLA. They recorded a podcast of the event-- you should check it out. Not only was their talk tremendous, but I scribbled down a massive reading list as a result. Look for it under LAPL Aloud. 8y
