#readingenvysummerchallenge @ReadingEnvy
I suspect that i may not get many more in this challenge & it is getting a bit nippy now so a timely return to the louisiana swamps with a favourite detective seems apt. James lee burke describes the scenery and culture with skill whilst combining great plots. A film crew are in town, an old adversary now tough criminal, and a nasty killer. As Dave starts seeing soldiers in the mist can he sort it all out.

ReadingEnvy Snakey wisps sure sounds swampy! 5y
Cathythoughts Nice one 👍🏻swampy 5y

#readingenvysummerchallenge “Something swampy, something blue, something translated, something true” August edition.
I was going to use Where the Crawdads Sing for the swampy category, but then I realized that the human gut is an awfully swampy place, so I could count four different translated titles for the challenge this month.

Prairiegirl_reading Good job! 5y
Reggie Lol love the swampy interpretation! 5y

andrew61 Well done, i didn't get round to a second shot at the challenge but enjoyed what i did read which cleared several books that had been sat on a shelf unread for a long time. 5y
ReadingEnvy Swampy gut, hilarious. Is the hidden lives of animals as good as his tree book? 5y
ReadingEnvy @andrew61 clearing books is always a good thing! 5y
Lindy @andrew61 It‘s satisfying to get to those long-awaited books. 😊 5y
Lindy @ReadingEnvy No, the animal book isn‘t as good as the tree book, but it‘s still a pick. 5y

I picked this from my shelves for #readingenvysummerchallenge @ReadingEnvy for something true and have put it down having read one of my books of the year but emotionally a wreck. The writer tells how as a 17 yr old her 16 yr old br is knocked down in a hit and run + is in a psv for 7 yrs b4 feeding id withdrawn after a crt hearing. Told with tenderness and visceral honesty it deals with grief, guilt, and loss and is heart breaking. A stunning bk.

Cathythoughts Great review ♥️💔 5y
ReadingEnvy Phew sounds like a difficult situation. (But also yay you met the challenge!) 5y
andrew61 @ReadingEnvy thanks jenny, if i can manage another round before September i will be chuffed. 5y

I‘m not quite there yet on the #readingenvysummerreading challenge. I‘ve finished something swampy, something true and something blue - and I‘ve just started my something translated. How long have I got left @ReadingEnvy ? And of course for me it‘s winter 😂😂 #readingenvysummerchallenge

ReadingEnvy Technically I think summer goes until fall equinox but most of think it ends September 1. 5y
Centique @ReadingEnvy excellent I can definitely do that! 5y
Ruthiella You can do it!😀 5y

Something translated from my tbr was Remarkably prescient in a speculative story about Dagestan imagining what cd happen if Russia built a wall dividing the 2 areas. In a culturally mixed country this sparks islamic radicalism. Told from a yng mans perspective it explores folk tales, poetry, and a proud history fighting ottoman and Soviet. A bk that had me confused but astonished at its brilliance.

TrishB A great description! 5y

#readingenvysummerchallenge Why did i leave it so long to read this wonderful story about the English fenland (definitely a place i want to visit). Mixing history of the area with an intimate story of a man, a teacher, from his childhood with his widower lock keeper father and damaged br as he explores sexual feelings to his later years as tragic events in those early yrs impact on his and his wife's life. Beautifully written and fascinating.

Centique I must read this as I really loved the movie with Jeremy Irons. Very old movie now though! 5y
andrew61 @Centique i didn't know there was a film, hard to imagine how it would work but ill look out for it, thanks. 5y
