I didn‘t read much last year but my favorite thing was #ReadSpooky2022 and having a list to fall back on. So I‘m doing it again, this time with prompts. #ReadSpooky2023

It‘s also on Storygraph as a challenge if anyone wants to join:
https://app.thestorygraph.com/reading_challenges/b1484a5e-1bdf-4866-aed6-34c0df5...

Clwojick Yes! I‘m in! I always thought I didn‘t like horror, but I read some great horrors last year, so this is a perfect way to broaden my horror horizons! 1y
Bookzombie I don‘t really need another challenge but I love this as I always love horror. Thanks! Adding it to my list. 💗 1y
Chrissyreadit Just saw this - cause I saw it was your Litsyversary!!! I do want to get back into horror and love this idea. 10mo

Well written - tense, dark , hopeful - the world is experiencing a pandemic of violence (children killing family, adults sabotaging companies) and Hesketh is one of the people asked to work on a solution - his stepson Freddy K becomes “infected“ - it is about love, friendship, effect of rapid growth on the planet - so many things - Be warned: there is no Scooby Doo ending - (which I loved)

Perfectly written story. There was a tension throughout the story (what will happen next) and a creepiness, not scary but creepy - Merricat and Constance and Uncle are a family that loves one another but must work around each others psychological issues (see below for the rest)

bthegood Cousin Charles is unkind and has no idea how tight their world is and his aim to break into that world for money cannot be successful due to that, the towns people (even their friends) are cold, cruel and ignorant of how to deal with women with mental health issues - I listened to this (audiobook) and it was fantastic - could not stop listening - just a very good story!! 2y
AnnR So glad you liked the story and the audio version! This is one of the books I'm considering listening to in October. As a comparison, have you read The Haunting of House Hill? (I haven't read any books by Jackson yet.) 2y
bthegood @Ann_Reads yes - I read Haunting of Hill House and liked it but I liked this one better - I really liked the audiobook too - I hope you enjoy it (not long about 6 hours I think). 🙂 2y

AnnR @bthegood Thank you for the recommendation. 🙂 2y
bthegood @Ann_Reads I cannot respond to your posts that you tag me in until you accept my request 🙂 2y
AnnR @bthegood Sorry about that. The requests don't show up on the web version of Litsy, which is what I usually use instead of the App. I just took my profile out of the 'private setting' as it just seems to be causing too many issues. Thanks for letting me know. 2y

-A story about best friends and possession- the 80s references and layout of the book (song titles, yearbook) takes you to a definite time and place, strengthening the story - it is about possession, friendship, love - it is funny, gory, scary, and touching - really good read - (growing up in the 80s did contribute to my complete enjoyment of this book but it's not a requirement to enjoy it)

I enjoyed the concept and delivery - a man from the 1500s must capture the hollow ones (evil that inhabits humans as hosts to create chaos/death) - and two FBI agents help along the way (one in the 1960s and one present day) -
#JubilantJuly hours read about 15/20

Another #BookSpinBingo book (and vacation was so packed with activity with family that it was worth not getting in many reading hours).
Make a great day everyone 🌞

LKK526 Trying to read My SummerDarlings which is pretty good so far. But having work done in kitchen. Men in and out of house and drilling and trying to keep my nosy cat Kuna out of kitchen while Cassie who hates strangers has disappeared. This is going to be a long day (edited) 2y

bthegood @LKK526 hopefully you will get some peace and quiet soon😊 2y
LKK526 @bthegood they found a gas leak! My kitchen looks like I let the cats loose in it to have a good time. Since it‘s 6:30 it‘s quiet. (edited) 2y
bthegood @LKK526 Glad they found it before anyone got hurt! Have a good night/day - 🌞 2y

I read this for #ReadSpooky2022 @teebe because Byatt is this month's author and I could not find any of her scary books at the library - this is well written just not a topic I am interested in - though I learned a lot -

This was a pretty decent gothic tale; creepy and atmospheric. I like how the story unfolded along three different timelines. #ReadSpooky2022

I enjoyed this creepy story - I am surprised it is a children's book - as much as I like horror and creepy stories I think this would have been too much for me as a young child.
Finished for the April prompt of #ReadSpooky2022 @teebe
And another book finished for #MarvellousMay @Andrew65

Linsy Definitely depends on the kid! And I think what happens when we categorize books based on the age of their protagonist. 2y

Andrew65 @bthegood i love doing it. 😍 2y
WJCintron Neil Gaiman is amazing!! I didn't like the movie, though. It's a well done film, but too dark for a kid's movie, I think. 2y
bthegood @WJCintron I haven't seen it yet, but I already feel the book is too dark for kids - make a great day 🌞 2y

So glad I finally read this! It‘s very different from the movie, which I knew going in, but still. I like both a lot! Also, special thanks to Mr. Gaiman for officially pulling me out of my slump. #ReadSpooky2022 @teebe
