Hi! Holy s#!¥ it‘s been a minute. I actually lost access to my account for awhile as it wouldn‘t recognize my email✌? Last year was crazy and this year has been doubly so. I feel like I always manage to pop back up around Halloween and Christmas lol. I‘m now 10 months behind on posting what I‘ve been reading for #ReadSpooky2023 ??‍♀️

Bookzombie Welcome Back! I‘m kind just behind on challenges in particular. I think I might have missed a month or two for yours. 6mo
LeahBergen Hello again! 👋 6mo
teebe @Bookzombie I definitely outright missed a month or two of my own as well! 😂😅 (edited) 6mo

LeahBergen @teebe Great, thank you! How about you? Are you perhaps thinking about hosting your ever-wonderful Creepy Christmas this year? 😆 6mo
teebe @LeahBergen I‘ve been super busy but good. I will definitely have something about Creepy Christmas verrrrrry soon. 6mo

I really enjoyed the artwork in this, but I‘m not sure I got the full story. Maybe I needed a little more narrative, which is probably a me problem. #ReadSpooky2023 #Castle

Howard Browning, formally the iconic killer in a series of 80s slasher films, is now stuck attending conventions. When a reboot is announced, Howard is excited to return to the role, but finds out he is being replaced by Trevor Mane. Trevor was a child actor and is trying to break out of that image and stay sober. Soon it seems that Howard will do anything to be The Reaper again. Trevor‘s addiction to heroin adds some weight to this story, but ⬇️

Bookzombie otherwise it‘s fun and campy. A little bit of an ode to 80s slasher films. I enjoyed the excerpts of Reaper scripts. McAuley has a holiday horror book coming out later this year that I‘m looking forward to. #ReadSpooky2023 #monster 12mo
Reggie Sounds fantastic! 12mo
Bookzombie @Reggie I thought it was fun. I‘m thinking about rewatching The Nightmare on Elm Street series now. 🙂 12mo

This was my pick for March‘s #ReadSpooky2023 prompt of true crime. From 1935 - 1938 there was a serial killer dismembering people in Cleveland, Ohio. Sometimes called the Cleveland Torso Murderer or the Mad Butcher of Kingsbury Run, this graphic novel covers the investigation, including Eliot Ness, who was Safety Director at the time. This was interesting and I thought the use of real photos and documents added depth. #truecrime ⬇️

Bookzombie FYI: I suggest finding a physical copy of this one. I read it via Hoopla and it was difficult on both my phone and laptop. Some of the layouts were difficult to read. 13mo

If I think about this as a horror movie where two girls behave stupidly, run into stereotypical killers, with an unbelievable ending, I can say that I liked it enough. I almost DNFed early on though because it‘s slow to get going and maybe it was my mood but I found the two friends annoying. #ReadSpooky2023 #Hunted

Bookzombie While I haven‘t seen Deliverance, the theme music was in my head during this book. 😂 14mo

Like a lot of horror, it starts off strong and then fizzles a bit at the end. Build up is great, took me a minute to get into the writing style but I love how a mundane scene is being described and then the last sentence or last few words reveals it isn‘t at all ordinary. It makes for an eerie first half. Solid three star read. If you like reading ghost stories, I do recommend it. #ReadSpooky2023

January Reviews

This YA horror has been on my TBR a while. I picked it up for January‘s #ReadSpooky2023 prompt. I thought it was a traditional haunted house story, but there was a twist I didn‘t see coming. It‘s a pick for me, but a low one. It‘s not a long book and I feel that the story could have been fleshed (ha!) out more. I will pick up Lukavics‘ other books. #haunted #Booked2023 #TitleStartsWithVorW

I didn‘t read much last year but my favorite thing was #ReadSpooky2022 and having a list to fall back on. So I‘m doing it again, this time with prompts. #ReadSpooky2023

It‘s also on Storygraph as a challenge if anyone wants to join:

Clwojick Yes! I‘m in! I always thought I didn‘t like horror, but I read some great horrors last year, so this is a perfect way to broaden my horror horizons! 1y
Bookzombie I don‘t really need another challenge but I love this as I always love horror. Thanks! Adding it to my list. 💗 1y
Chrissyreadit Just saw this - cause I saw it was your Litsyversary!!! I do want to get back into horror and love this idea. 10mo
