#cockygate appears to be the gift that keeps on giving. There‘s now a bot on Twitter that scans trademark fillings. I think this is how #rebelliongate was found. I‘m not even gonna try to keep up with that one.

And here we go again! Maybe this one will be #rebelliongate? Anyway, some video game developers from the UK want to trademark rebellion for use in virtually all art forms from video games to movies to books. Someone had already started tweeting out instances in which books have used rebellion in the title. I‘m pretty sure there‘s at least one Star Wars video game or show that has rebels or rebellion so it‘s gonna be a tough sell.

CocoReads First #cockygate and then this? Pretty soon no one will be able to say anything. 🙄 (edited) 7y

jpmcwisemorgan @CocoReads I know, it‘s crazy! @Riveted_Reader_Melissa It‘s going to be interesting, I think. 7y
Weaponxgirl Oh for gods sake! Do people just actively want to be hated? 7y
jpmcwisemorgan @Weaponxgirl Maybe? I think it‘s an overreach but it‘s starting with video games so I‘m gonna ignore it for now. 7y
rubyslippersreads I'll be very interested to see what happens when they go up against Disney lawyers. 😂 7y
jpmcwisemorgan @rubyslippersreads Yes, but I couldn‘t find anything with rebellion in the name, just rebel(s). I didn‘t look very hard for it so it could be there. I thought of Star Wars when I saw this (so Disney) but regardless it seems like they‘re going a little broad. They want to protect their “universe” but I‘m not sure how they‘re going to manage that.
