I enjoyed the cozy spice shop setting in Salem and liked learning more about Ayurvedic practices. I also appreciated Tulsi‘s journey to learn more about herself and her family. It just felt overly long to me and fell a bit flat. #amazonfirstreads

The story of a woman trying to find herself and gently reject her family‘s expectations for her to join their business as an Ayurvedic spice healer, there were a lot of plot lines here but ultimately it was a pleasant and entertaining read. If I start yet another book without finishing my last three, will you think I‘m fickle? 😂

An immersive read, basically a coming of age story despite the romance, family drama and humor. Tulsi has been trained all her life to be a spice healer by her ba and single mother, but she always wanted to travel….Then the internet hits their shop, bad press and her mother‘s past love. A very satisfying read.

Just taking 15m of baby dude's nap time to do more herb related reading but not directly school related 🤪 This is actually a surprisingly short (sweetly so for me) book by just one of the many important herbalists today. I'm loving the illustrations.
And just found out vanilla beans take about as long to mature as the human gestational period. Weird.

Always fun when a book on your wishlist pops up in your neighborhood Little Free Library! I feel like this will come in handy in those (many) moments when I don‘t really need a recipe but could use a little inspiration re: using up something in my fridge/garden/pantry.

A surprisingly accessible, well-written account (not at all dense) of medieval Europe‘s fascination with/demand for spices & the resulting consequences. From spices as aromatics & flavorings in food to their medicinal uses (spoiler, sugar used a lot!) from trade with Islamic Empire to European expansionism, from highly spiced food to the rise of French cuisine & the end of the popularity of spices in Europe, this book covers a lot. Fascinating.
