The Great Hunger is a tough subject for a children's novel to cover. While the story did not delve into some of the darker aspects of this event, I felt that it did a decent job of introducing children to a difficult part of history. I felt that the book could've been longer to give more time for character development. Overall, it was a pretty decent children's novel. #bookclub #timetravelingbookclub #Ireland #historicalfiction #childrensbooks

Weir's biography of Eleanor of Aquitaine does a brilliant job of portraying her life in a fair and balanced way, unlike many other works that seek to malign her or idolize her. I liked how Weir addressed myths, rumors, and unverifiable claims about Eleanor and her family, explaining the origins and depictions of each and summing up their veracity. After reading this book, I want to read more of Weir's biographies.#timetravelingbookclub #biography

I read Glidden's graphic memoir for my time traveling book club, and really enjoyed it. I learned a lot about the ongoing conflict and the history behind it. Glidden's illustrations and writing unfolds in a natural way that welcomes readers in. #2017Book6 #timetravelingbookclub #bookclub
