The Wolf Wilder | Katherine Rundell

Pickpick

I recently read an article about the benefits of reading middle school novels, that it can bring back a sense of wonder and optimism. This book was on the list of recommendations in that article.

It was a quick read, I enjoyed it, I rooted for Feo, her wolves and her crew… but my god… Isobbed MORE THAN ONCE..lol! 😭
Definitely a darker middle school book, but if the kids are up for it, it‘d do its job of rallying them to stand up for themselves.

The Girl and the Wolf | Katherena Vermette
post image

“Vermette challenges the familiar narrative of the scary wolf who is the antagonist in most fairy tales. The girl is lost with only the wolf to help her, but across the narrative she learns to trust the wolf.“ Read the full review of this Indigenous remix of Little Red Riding Hood here: https://wowlit.org/on-line-publications/review/xvii-2/5/

How could I resist this new edition of Wolf's Rain? The Perfect Edition collects both manga volumes and has some tiny extras. It's also a new translation.

I watched the anime and read the mangas when I was a teen and loved it dearly. As a grown I can say that two volumes are not enough for this story to be fully told. I wish there was more. Still, I loved being reunited with those wolves again and also saw some aspects that are still current.

This novel is heartbreaking. I liked the characters, even Luke, the father of Edward and Cara. The story is told from each character‘s perspective. The love shared between them is strong. 4.5/5

A children‘s novel full of wonderful illustrations of Wander, a wolf, journeying over a thousand miles in search of a home.

I enjoyed this book immensely.

Wolf Border | Sarah Hall

She's a good writer, a long book but didn't feel so.
Rachel is tasked with wolf reintroduction and thus follows the tale, the relationships she encounters and her own journey in all of this. I like how it all works together, her career path kind of exists with the borders of her family life and the friends she makes within this world. Lots of metaphorical links here, really made me appreciate her thoroughness.
