Instructions for a Heatwave | Maggie O'Farrell

Pickpick

This was my pick for #writtenbysomeoneyourage for the Litsy Bingo Reading Challenge and was the first book that I've read by Maggie O'Farrell. It's the story of a disjointed family reunited over the disappearance of their father, bringing to light each character's long held secrets. I will definitely search out her other works after reading this one. Image is from Goodreads.

MrsMalaprop Love her books 👍. 7y
TrishB I read this last week and it was my first by her and definitely not my last. 7y
Ncostell @MrsMalaprop, @TrishB I've had this on my TBR pile for a long time, hopefully it won't take me as long to get to her other books! 7y

One word: WOW. You should stop everything and read this now. As a white, Canadian, atheist milennial, I share many experiences with the author but take many of my own experiences for granted. As a fellow milennial, this book was written in way that was relatable to me. So many of the chapters called out microaggressions that I wasn't even aware of.

Finally got around to typing up my card for #litsyreadingchallenge! The purple ones are complete, and the green ones are on my #TBR for April. I'm struggling to find books for a couple of categories, especially the #writtenbysomeoneyourage square. I'm doing pretty well on my other challenges as well! #progresspost

🌟🌟🌟🌟
When I finish Carve the mark I wasn't quite sure how to handle it. I couldn't decide if I loved it or hated it. Definitely not what I was expecting. The writing was mysterious and lovely and I really enjoyed this! It's a cruel story. It's too many dead people. Are Veronica fan of GoT?? Divergent trilogy is much better than this on.

Fredrika Bergman & Alex Recht # 1 This is a police procedural/thriller told from multiple perspectives. The main characters are well developed and the story is interesting. I thought the pacing was good until the police figured it out and then it was a little rushed. Overall, I enjoyed it and will pick up the next one. #litsyreadingchallenge #writtenbysomeoneyourage #LRC16

There were a few little things that irked me, such as every one of the rebels having this sarcastic attitude. I like a little diversity in my characters. But, it was a refreshingly new world, and I overall enjoyed the ride. Quite certain I know what the big surprise will be in the finale, but we shall see. Oh, and Veronica Roth and I are super close in age. #writtenbysomeoneyourage #litsyreadingchallenge #litsybingo
