Diem is seriously one of the most frustrating and sometimes most unlikable characters I‘ve ever read about. Questioning Luther‘s blind love and loyalty is what‘s kept me going through this series. And Taran. Love Taran. I‘ll still rate it well in the end, if not just for those two. Tried the audiobook version when falling asleep the other night and it almost ruined it for me.

Alright. I‘m hooked. Read it in 3 days and now into the third book.

Based on other reviews, I went into this book expecting to be hooked a lot sooner than I was. Maybe I was just tired late-night reading, but it wasn‘t until around the last 100 pages (of 300 something) that I was fully bought in and purchased the next two books. It moved a bit slower than I like, and I‘m not one to shy away from world building. Eventually it got to a 4/5 for me and I‘m already 100 pages into book 2.

Finally started Atonement of the Spine Cleaver. An intimidating almost 800 pages. Hadn‘t heard much about it, but found it recommended in a Reddit thread, took that one recommendation and committed for whatever reason. I found myself distracted for the first bit, but finally settled in after 100 pages or so. Hunger Games meets Fourth Wing, maybe?

Well, Amazon did not deliver the book I wanted today, so I found this in my house. Something has to scratch the book habit itch that I‘ve started in the last few months… Not sure where it came from, but I‘m not mad at it. So far it‘s giving Alice in Londonland. 50 pages in and I‘m intrigued.

When I first started this series, I wasn‘t sure, but it came recommended, I bought the box set, and I‘m no quitter—and I‘m glad for that. SO much world building leading up the last book that I could not put down. This series is different from fantasy that I‘ve grown used to and it was a nice change of pace with changing POV per chapter. Highly recommend if you like easily slipping into a different and dark world.
