The Knight and the Moth
The Knight and the Moth | Rachel Gillig
From NYT bestselling author Rachel Gillig comes the next big romantasy sensation, a gothic, mist-cloaked tale of a young prophetess forced on an impossible quest with the one knight whose future is beyond her sight. Perfect for fans of Jennifer L. Armentrout and Leigh Bardugo. Sybil Delling has spent nine years dreaming of having no dreams at all. Like the other foundling girls who traded a decade of service for a home in the great cathedral, Sybil is a Diviner. In her dreams she receives visions from six unearthly figures known as Omens. From them, she can predict terrible things before they occur, and lords and common folk alike travel across the kingdom of Traums windswept moors to learn their futures by her dreams. Just as she and her sister Diviners near the end of their service, a mysterious knight arrives at the cathedral. Rude, heretical, and devilishly handsome, the knight Rodrick has no respect for Sybil's visions. But when Sybil's fellow Diviners begin to vanish one by one, she has no choice but to seek his help in finding them. For the world outside the cathedrals cloister is wrought with peril. Only the gods have the answers she is seeking, and as much as she'd rather avoid Rodrick's dark eyes and sharp tongue, only a heretic can defeat a god.

Alluring cover. Intriguing world-building. Quirky gargoyle sidekick. Sweet budding romance. Devastating villainy. I‘m in for Book 2.

⭐️4/5
A great fantasy with romance. Beautiful world building, captivating characters. It does set up for a sequel which I personally never like in a book, hence loss of a star. Will definitely be continuing though.

This book was fun to read, but I was expecting a little more from it. The quest that they go on, I thought it would be a little more difficult, considering how many others had tried and failed. The Diviners was an interesting concept, but they should have figured out what their fate was going to be after 10 years. It felt like things fell into place too easily for Sybil so there wasn't much tension in her story. The ending was a big disappointment

Butterfinger Oh no. I really enjoyed the duology. I was going to pursue everything she wrote. I will still read it, but I won't be in a hurry. 6d
ReadingOver50 @Butterfinger I still liked it. Just in retrospect there were some problems. 5d

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Rachel Gillig is 2 for 2 in writing worlds that I could get lost in, and are also very interesting. I really enjoyed the characters (don‘t even get me started on the gargoyle, he‘s the BEST), the story was well written, however that cliffhanger had me raging. The sequel better make that ending worth it though 😭

The Knight and the Moth by Rachel Gillig 🎧Fun premise, interesting magic system, good pace, a pretty sweet romance. I expected a more complex plot, but it worked. The gargoyle is my favorite. Curious how the second book will work out.

PICK!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ enjoyed this so so much! It was dark but had humor and charm, it had banter and creepy strange imagery, it had romance and violence and weird creatures, this story flowed very well, no notes, solid and unique fantasy, very excited for the second!! 🖤

Interesting magical system. An atmospheric read that was somehow full of sunshine while still emotionally dark. The gargoyle was my absolute favorite. I never want to say an idiom correctly again.

My friend let me borrow her pretty copy 🥰

"Which is more intricate?" he mused. "The designs of men, trying to reach gods, or that of gods, trying to reach men?" My hammer collided with a chunk of granite. "What is either to the intricacies of women, who reach both?"

I finished 8 books in July. The Knight and the Moth was the standout, but it was a pretty enjoyable reading month for me.

I can't stop thinking about gargoyle. I think I really like quirky side kicks. I also just finished storm and fury and there's a fun side kick ghost. How about Phantasma with the ghost kitty. It's not about ghosts... Just fun side kicks!
What recommendations do you guys have?

Butterfinger That's the reason I love, love, love Ruhn Dannon in Crescent City. He's the sidekick with an edge. And Ridoc..He saved Onyx Storm, in my opinion. 4mo
emz711 @Butterfinger ooo interesting takes. But I liked Tharion's side storyline the best 4mo
emz711 @Butterfinger Fourth wing I see the dragons as the side kicks... Comic relief and whatever 4mo

I asked Bri at PRB for a book that would block out the world, a story that would pull me into its pages and keep intrusive thoughts at bay. She delivered. The writing and world building are immersive, the magic system is fascinating, and the characters are complex and contradictory. I hate that I have to wait for book 2, but I look forward to seeing the stone gargoyle again. I adore him.

First off, this is not my preferred genre but a Bookstagram post got the best of me. Secondly, I finished it and consider it a pick, so that says something. There was a part in the middle that lagged for me and the words the author used during the sexy time was cringy at best, but it‘s still a pick. Will I read Book 2 when it comes out? I‘m not sure. Almost DNF-ed when I hit that lag, but I‘m glad I didn‘t, so there‘s that…

5/5 I have so many cliffhanger books that I‘m waiting for next installments at this point, I didn‘t think this would be one of them. So good. So well done. Ugh, I love that gargoyle.

I‘ve read the last two pages multiple times now … not that I think they‘re going to change … it‘s just I love one of the characters so much (the little gargoyle) and it‘s breaking my heart what‘s happening … maybe I just don‘t want to leave. It‘s going to be such a long time waiting … cliffhangers 😰🥺🫣
