This is a great book for any parent, and should be a required read for parents fostering or adopting kids or who are raising a child with special needs. This book covers techniques from the trust based relational intervention (TBRI) program, and has many concrete tips on supporting children‘s healthy brain development, regardless of their developmental and emotional levels. I‘m grateful to have this book in my life! #Adoption #FosterAndAdopt #TBRI

I am afraid of failing as a parent—something all humans do in all things, I realize, but that doesn‘t make it any easier, especially when it involves a child. This quote will be an important reminder on the many days when I will inevitably miss the mark.

I just finished chapter 9, “Proactive Strategies to Make Life.” This chapter gave lots of suggestions which helped address questions I have about how to handle different situations from preventing and handling meltdowns in supermarkets to children demanding attention to bed time routines. I know reality will be harder, but I so appreciate this book for all the practical ideas! #Adoption #FosterandAdopt #TBRI

I‘m so grateful to have had this book to keep me company while I haven‘t been feeling well. I loved so many things about this book—the stories within the story, the characters, and the video game references. The world deserves Erin Morganstern, especially right now, and we are so lucky to have her creations to expand our mind and warm our hearts.

Eyelit Btw if you come back to a Thursday night chat you can gush and fangirl about this book with everyone (except me, lol). 3 out of the 4 regulars at the chat have read and LOVED this book. I haven‘t read it yet, but am absolutely looking forward to it 😍 4y
emz711 It's so great! Reading and audiobook too was great, different people for the different voices. 🐝🗝🗡 4y

I‘m nursing a sinus infection and I‘m pretty sure this book is the best medicine there is. Erin Morgenstern is brilliant.

I started reading this book several years ago and have recommended it to many, though I continued to read it very slowly. I love how Resmaa Menakem lays out the history of trauma in white bodies that then created white bodied supremacy, and how he gives a path forward for each of us to address that trauma. We must take individual responsibility for addressing our white bodied supremacy and advocate for change—these killings cannot continue.

I never wrote a review of this book, which I loved when I read it. I especially found it interesting reading it having grown up north of Chicago. I just watched the Netflix documentary on her book tour and it made me fall in love with the book all over again. If you haven‘t seen that yet, I highly recommend it!

In many ways this book gives what to me is common sense advice for leadership, but I liked that Simon Sinek wove in how neurotransmitters like dopamine, serotonin, adrenaline, oxytocin, and others feed into our workplace interactions. He also provided the most balanced discussion on millennials in the work place I have read, and I liked his tips for bosses, millennials, and parents in the appendix.

I love this, and it rings true for the work of anti-racism since white supremacy and systemic racism have taught us not to speak out against white absolute power. “Responsibility is not doing as we are told, that‘s obedience. Responsibility is doing what is right.”

Patrick Rothfuss put it better than I can: “If you‘re one of the people who found this story disconcerting, off-putting, or confusing, I apologize. The truth is, it probably just wasn‘t for you. The good news is that there are many other stories out there that are written just for you. Stories you will enjoy much more. This story is for all the slightly broken people out there. I am one of you. You are not alone. You are all beautiful to me.”

This was a timely read, and especially appropriate that I read it while wearing this shirt. I loved how Yoko Ogawa wove a story within a story into a cohesive cautionary tale. I will definitely be reading more of her! Thank you @Eyelit for the recommendation!

I couldn‘t put this book down. I love how Mira Jacob wove stories from her past and present into a relatable, thoughtful book about the challenges of parenting and living in a world built on white supremacy. She managed to convey heartache and hope fullness in a compelling way. Definitely worth a read.

Jane: A Murder | Maggie Nelson

Maggie Nelson never disappoints. I love how she wove the story of her aunt through first hand accounts and diary snippets, all while using poetry as her medium. Nelson manages to prove to my grade school self that there is so much more to poetry than sonnets and stiff rules. She does a remarkable job of giving life and dimension to her aunt. I‘m sure Jane would have been proud.

I am so grateful this book exists in the universe. This give really helpful information for all friends and loved ones involved in the process of adopting a child. We are in the process of getting certified to adopt and despite already having a strong foundation, I learned a lot from reading the book. It especially helped me gain insight into what my friends and family may be experiencing as I go on this journey #fosterandadopt

keithmalek Right now, it's easy. I just finished this book and really enjoyed it. I can‘t wait to pick up the next one in the series. I lived on the Navajo Reservation for two years so it was interesting hearing her talk about the same places I have been, but from a dystopian future. I loved her characters and I particularly liked the strong but complex female lead.

“I do think most parents, at the heart, want their children to be happy. It is only we want our children to be happy in the right way. The way we were taught happiness was. I think this is a cause of much pain, thinking, perhaps, that there is a right way.” -p287

“I‘d seen how just a handful of votes in every precinct could mean the difference not just between one candidate and another but between one value system and the next. If a few people stayed home in each neighborhood, it could determine what our kids learned in schools, which health-care options we had available, or whether or not we sent our troops to war. Voting was both simple and incredibly effective.” -p274
