High Fidelity | Nick Hornby
Pickpick

My all time top five favourite things about high fidelity:
1- the top fives
2- the mix tapes
3- existential angst
4- immature narcissistic narrator
5- it‘s not what you like, it‘s what you‘re like.

So going of number 5, even if you don‘t like high fidelity, I can still (theoretically) like you.

A Moveable Feast | Ernest Hemingway
Pickpick

Warning: book has very little to do with picnics. Only on a few occasions does Hemingway picnic. I wanted more picnic, and less f.scott penis. All in all worth reading just for Hemingway‘s roasts on other writers. Eg = I do not think I have ever seen a nastier-looking man... Under the black hat, when I had first seen them, the eyes had been those of an unsuccessful rapist. [on Brit poet Percy Wyndham Lewis]

Finally someone has answered the age old question: how would a bourgeois bloke get back to work after waking as a monstrous cockroach?

Cannery Row | John Steinbeck
Pickpick

Good book, probably worth at least 15 frogs, 17 frogs in a pinch. But I‘d recommend waiting for a special at lee chongs, and paying only 12 frogs for this fine book.

Reading a Book? Don‘t actually read the book, just hold it really tight so your forearms bulge out. Every time you turn a page, rip it out, because you are too strong to hold paper.

Dracula | Bram Stoker

I never knew garlic had white flowers. Thank you Bram Stoker. I was of the opinion they just appeared in a mist inside my fridge.

The Big Sleep | Raymond Chandler

Made me want to become an alcoholic dick. If you ask any of my friends though I‘m already both of those things.

Fight Club | Chuck Palahnuik

I feel the true powerhouse of writing is whoever made the screenplay.... amazing concept which I‘m overfamiliar with now but maybe the movie was better??? Chuck is still my idol.

Child of God | Cormac McCarthy

Fun small read. If sex with dead bodies isn‘t your thing, stay away. If sex with dead bodies is your thing, see a doctor.

The Bell Jar | Sylvia Plath

A damn shame we didn‘t get more novels From such an amazing voice.

Love John. I feel just reading his story has made me a more honest person. And for McCarthy I didn‘t find myself wincing from violence... probably my favourite writer.

I will now forever be on the look out for men wearing a triple button wool Armani suit with a white pocket square. Matching slacks. Sterling tie clip holding a cornflower blue tie from polo. Non prescription frames from Burberry and a new Sony Walkman with headphones gently wrapping moose backed hair.

Nadsat really takes the sting out of written violence. But once you have a better idea of it and contextually everything works 😱
