Loved it!
Loved this book! The perfect combination of chicklit humor and mystery in a book about murder in the afterlife. (Yep, you read that right.) British phraseology added to the charm. Pure fun!

"Woe betide the man who woke me up in the middle of the night to test my error margin."
Loved! I grew up on these movies and always felt they were more important than adults (at the time) gave them credit for being. This was a great way to re-experience them, especially because I still relate more to those characters than ones my current age.
So far my favorite of the series. V.I. was humanized, I think, due to life-threatening circumstances. Why is it easier to care about characters who are vulnerable? Because we can understand that and are more willing to follow them on their journey. Also, while reading this I thought about how the author was in the early years of forming Sisters in Crime while writing these early books. Interesting perspective.
Started my post-Thanksgiving readathon of the V.I. Warshawski series by Sara Paretsky. Good first in series, but I'm looking forward to getting to know V.I. better in future installments. P.I. novels are so focused on what the P.I. find out that it takes awhile to get a handle on them!
I expected to like this book because I like books about people shaking up their daily routines. (I once conducted a 30 day experiment of gluing on fake lashes to see the impact it had on my life.) But wearing fake eyelashes and training with a Navy SEAL are very different things and I'm no workout junkie. I didn't expect to be inspired to look at my own life differently and I definitely didn't expect to cry at the end!

I couldn't even think about telling my dad that I'd screwed up so badly my first Halloween running the store.
