Possibly my favorite book this year and so not what I normally read.
I watched the interviews. I read the articles. I finally got my hands on the audiobook. While none of the content was surprising, Ronan Farrow delivers his experience in a clear and thorough manner. He reminds the reader/listener that there is such a thing as integrity and it is severely lacking in today's society. I have a new respect for journalism and the ones who finally spoke up.
I picked this book up solely because of the image on the cover. #ijudgebooksbythecover
Every book club I come across has suggested this book. Every house I walk into has it on the shelf. This book needs to be experienced through the audiobook version. Mrs. Obama does an amazing job of describing the balance between being a daughter, a professional, a wife and mother, a human being, and first lady. I gained so much respect for her after listening to this book.
Again I'm a victim of my holds list on #Overdrive. So Nos4a2 has been put back on the list and back on hold. The Stand has been kind of put to the side, mostly because I've been busy and it's too big to carry around.
I found myself asking "why should I care?" A lot while listening to the audiobook. I'm glad I stuck with it, however I feel like it was a bit robotic. The places where the author should have emphasized feelings or emotions she didn't, and the places she did were awkward and unessceary. That being said, I admire her conviction. We don't get to choose our family, and considering her circumstances she did the best she could.
I keep asking myself (just finished chapter 10) is there a point? We all have messed up families (and if you don't chances are you're just not paying attention.) I'll finish it, I just don't understand the hype. Full disclosure: I completely caved to peer pressure on picking this one up.
When all your holds become available at once. . . I've waited months, but I'm already reading 2 other books. Does it take a back seat to the others?
How do we feel about audiobooks? In my opinion, being read to counts just as much as being the one doing the reading. As someone who walks A LOT, I prefer someone telling me a story then listening to my favorite playlist.
Current Audiobook: Nos4A2 by Joe Hill
I'm about to take on all 1,153 pages of this monster. I've heard great things, so I decided to check it out. Shout out to the Yonkers Public Library. #librarylover. #takeingonthetbr
