Stand: Complete and Uncut (School & Library)
Stand: Complete and Uncut (School & Library) | Stephen King
Imagine America devastated by a vast killer plague that moves from coast to coast. Imagine the countryside destroyed and great cities decimated as the entire population desperately and futilely seeks safety. Imagine then an even greater evil rising to threaten the survivors---and a last embattled group of men and women coming together to make a last stand against it.

Getting a late start on my new SK project this year (due to taking January to finish off last year's project). I still hope to average one a month and get through the 24 books on my extended Dark Tower list by the end of 2025. However, this utter brick of a book will take as long as it takes! I'll catch up later.

Leniverse @Reggie Oh, cool! SK adaptations can be hit or miss. I'll give that a try then, when I finish the book. 2mo
Leniverse @julesG Even the abridged version is a thousand pages. 🤣 At 1400 this seems like it should be a series. But if it made sense to split it up into two or more books, then I guess they would have, instead of cutting 400 pages to keep printing costs down. 2mo

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, STEPHEN KING! 🎈🎈🎈

I've loved his work for many many years, and it's still blows my mind that when I first read his books in high school I didn't like him as an author at all! 😱 But then I gave him another try and I read the stand a few years after that and it completely blew my mind and still remains one of my favorite books to this day! He is definitely one of my biggest comfort authors! 💕📚

I first read King‘s opus when I was 13 years old - the thought of a global plague as inconceivable as King‘s other supernatural creations. It was unsettling to reread this in the age of COVID, and while King‘s literal battle between God and the Devil may not be playing out today as he imagined, it‘s difficult not to sometimes feel that we might be living in a version of King‘s post-plague world. ⬇️

BeckyWithTheGoodBooks Kings‘s storytelling is incredible here - giving each character, no matter how minor, a richness and backstory integral to the overall saga. Every shade of humanity and morality is represented, and each character feels unique and real. Everything in this book has meaning. ⬇️ 9mo
BeckyWithTheGoodBooks There are some problems with the novel and at times, it IS cringingly problematic. But I simply can‘t deny the impact and influence this novel has had on me for almost 30 years. If an apocalypse should occur in my remaining lifetime, I hope I‘ll fall in with the Stus, Frannies, and Nicks of the world. 5⭐️ (edited) 9mo

This was a #SuperChunkster. It's really kind of too long. #ChunksterChallenge2023 @Amiable I am kind of speechless on what to think about this book. But being a The Walking Dead fan, humans really don't change. I managed to get one bingo spot in #ISpyBingoJune @Clwojick @TheAromaofBooks. I also got a spot bingo on the #NSR23 @Nessavamusic. I am starting to think that I'm really not a Stephen King fan. I wanted to know what happened to Tom lol

There's a reason many readers of King list The Stand as their favorite - it's an incredible book. The way King weaves so many disparate threads into an apocalyptic tapestry is masterful, and his ability to make you care for a plethora of characters is put to excellent use here. From the first inkling that something in the machinations of man has gone awry to the final sobering ruminations on our ultimate nature, this is a truly riveting read. 5/5

Finishing this summer‘s King took much longer than expected, but that‘s because I picked the chunkiest one. While I truly enjoyed the epic scope of the story, the nods to LotR and King‘s trademark omniscient narrator, the plot pacing seemed somewhat uneven, with some segments dragging on forever and others not fully fleshed out. Still, I‘m very happy I got this one off my list. Time to move on to something more compact.
