This is the first book that actually felt like it helped me, as I‘m grieving the sudden loss of my mom. There‘s an overwhelming sense of place as a character, which is beautiful, but more effective for me is the way the author moves through grieving and loss and the thoughts you circle through. So grateful to have found this book.

BarbaraTheBibliophage I'm so sorry for your loss. Losing our mom is so hard. 💕 5y

Spectacular. Insightful. Clear-eyed. Fantastic. I loved every second of this book and I stayed up till 3am to finish it. But I ended up falling asleep, so I finished it the next day and almost was late to work. It‘s that good.

Obviously I‘m late to the party having just read this, but WOW. The writing was so compelling, it was like nothing else I‘ve ever read before. I could hardly stand to put it down, and I was on the verge of eating lunch in my car at work just to be able to read uninterrupted! I can‘t say that these were my favorite characters ever, but they will certainly stay with me because each of them feel so unbelievably real.

Started re-reading this series to see if they hold up, since I was considering recommending them to my friend‘s daughters. As I expected, they‘re still wonderful, made me cry in places, and have an incredible heroine, wonderful characters and a great story.

Almost finished with the audio of this. I‘ve never been able to make sense of/keep track of the Norse pantheon when I‘ve tried to read novels that included them. I decided that learning about them from someone who truly loves these stories couldn‘t hurt! Totally the right choice!
