Ramona Quimby | Beverly Cleary, Len Jenkin
Pickpick

I adore Beverly Cleary and happy 102nd birthday to her. My favourite character of hers is Ramona. We are hit and miss in the store as to whether or not we have some to sell but we do right now. Will especially appeal to those who are the youngest in the family!

BookaholicNatty Awwww Ramona!!!!!!❤️❤️ 6y

We just received a bunch of copies of this classic children's book at the store. Beautiful story that stands up over time.

The Witch of Blackbird Pond | Elizabeth George Speare
Pickpick

For years I said that this was my favourite kids book. It is certainly powerful.

daniwithtea I loved that book as a kid. I think I still have my Scholastic Book Fair copy somewhere! 6y

The Tiger's Child | Torey Hayden
Pickpick

Any book by Torey Hayden is worth the read... I consider her the precursor to Cathy Glass and her ilk. I would recommend reading One Child and The Tiger's Child first. When i first read them in high school, I decided I wanted to be a special education teacher but I'm quite unsuited to that! Still they continue to inspire me

This is NOT me at the moment! I went back to work this week and I am exhausted! No time to read but I am lovingly caressing Elizabeth George's new book.

Dibs in Search of Self | Virginia Mae Axline
Pickpick

Continuing my reviews of books I read when I'm sick or need a pick-me-up, I was assigned this book in university and loved it so much I kept it ... all other books were sold as I was a poor student. Even if you are not majoring in psych or social work, it will touch your heart.

Here is a book about penpalling... and if there are others out there who love letters coming through the mail, hit me up! #litsypenpals

1. I love the relationship between Rosa the duck and Henri the dog in Louise Penny's mysteries.
2. My dream town would be Mitford as described by Jan Karon
3. This is a hard one but I would have to say Jane of Lantern Hill by LM Montgomery. Her transformation throughout the book is inspirational. They say that Montgomery was working on a sequel when she died... oh how I wish she had rushed a bit!

Gosh, thank you so much to @melyndarae for the welcome and for all those who are now following me! I am overwhelmed! At the moment I am making a list of those books I pull out when I am sick or sad... mostly childhood classics. I'm slowly learning how to navigate here but I am not the most techie person in the world!

melyndarae Oops, I meant to tell you that it can be overwhelming. Litsy is the most welcoming community I have ever joined. It's amazing! 6y
AshleyHoss820 Don‘t worry! Once you get the hang of it, you‘ll REALLY enjoy it here! It‘s a great community! 6y

Yours Truly, Shirley | Ann M. Martin
Pickpick

I know, I know, this is the author of the Babysitters Club series but her other books are actually quite good. This is my favourite... as someone who found school very easy and has no artistic skills whatsoever, it is interesting to read about someone who struggles to read but can design gorgeous art projects.

The Selected Journals of L.M. Montgomery: 1921-1929 | Lucy Maud Montgomery, Mary Rubio
Pickpick

Montgomery's journals are fascinating reading. If you only know her through her novels, you are in for a shock. I know she wrote, especially in later years, with the expectation that the public would read them, but there is still plenty of drama. She certainly knows how to spin a story.

tammysue Sounds pretty interesting! Stacked :) 6y

Jean Little is awesome and this is my favourite book from her... although From Anna comes very close. I dare you to read this book and not cry.

Karen was born in 1940 with cerebral palsy. And as her parents went from doctor to doctor, they were told on more then one occasion to put her in an institution and forget they ever had her. Determined to give their daughter a chance at a normal life they took on the task of doing physical therapy themselves and in their "spare time" formed a national organization to provide information and support for those with cp.

Family of Strangers | Susan Beth Pfeffer
Pickpick

I am so sad that this book is out of print because I would recommend it to anyone who reads YA. It's a story of family dysfunction told through letters and imaginary conversations. And even though the subject matter is dark, it contains a ton of humour. See if you can find a copy in a used bookstore or online because it's worth it!

I thought I would start off here with the books I discovered as a child and keep to reread when I am feeling down. I usually grab a pile and retreat to my bed. I love books about adoption and admire his family for making room for one more and building a multicultural home. I do, however, wish that it wasn't so easy to find out "the rest of the story" via Google.
