Amazing memoir! It‘s a coming-of-age story for those who feel betrayed by the very American idea that work should be your passion, combined with an insider‘s reflection on Big Tech (& gender). It really spoke to me as covid forced a career change on me from education to tech.

“Generally I find men a lot more concerned with limiting the freedoms of women than exercising personal freedoms for themselves” — jotted this down last year but seems especially relevant with everything going on in Texas right now.

Such a simple sentence but it stuck with me because it resonated. Made me smile.

✨existences briefly aligned✨ I love this little passage from The Vegetarian. It feels like one of those concepts only German has a word for, no? At the start of the pandemic, I began a quote book to house all the little moments that left a mark on me while reading. Trying to pick the habit back up. #thevegetarian #quotebook

Nute Such a cool idea!🤗 2y

It‘s a celebration of the sad & beautiful moments that take you from childhood to being an adult. The adventure is captivating and the theme of institutional power unchecked resonates. Lyra uncovers mysteries around her while navigating her way towards being the adult her world needs.

Lots of books here I‘ve been meaning to read for a while. I started with Detransition, Baby. Very excited to have this paired down list to choose from this fall. Although, I did just start the Broken Earth trilogy— oops 😅 #fallreading #readinglist

I devoured this book- it was right up my alley. I totally understand the polarization around it however. It doesn‘t necessarily follow a clear story arc in the way most books do (I mean it does but probably to us who love it). But tbh it‘s high brow romance at its core. I also had a friend who said I reminded him of Marianne.. still debating if that a compliment or insult haha.

I‘m still not totally sure how I feel about this book. But in a good way I think? It was somehow a simple and beautiful little summer read but also a book with depth. The way the human characters interacted with Klara was v interesting. I mean it was also interesting to get the story from Klara‘s POV, it‘s hard not to love her.

tpixie I feel the same way 3y

I had a whole plan for what I was going to read this fall- then I picked up the 5th season. Excuse me while I ignore all my other books in order to finish this trilogy ASAP 👀

It‘s a mix of The Handmaid‘s Tale and The Hunger Games. I really enjoyed this read. It also surprisingly refreshing to have a stand-alone novel in the dystopian YA genre (even if I do always love a good trilogy).

Fledgling: A Novel | Octavia E. Butler

I really enjoyed this book, I read it very quickly as I do with most things by octavia butler. But I do I understand if people are put off by this one as the main character physically looks like a child (even if she‘s not) and has a robust sex life throughout the novel.

Invisible Monsters: A Novel | Chuck Palahniuk
Bailedbailed

Please help me if I‘m missing something! All I could think was this is like the novelization of a Quentin Tarantino movie- and that‘s not a compliment from me lol. I bailed about half way in. Am I missing something, is there a better book to start with by this author? #chuckpalahniuk #invisiblemonsters

Wow, I tried reading this last year- I haven‘t had such a strong reaction to a book in a while. I absolutely hated all the characters and the lens through which events were presented. Had to bail about a third of the way through. Anyone else?!

Read this a while back. I was really excited because the review I‘d seen had described this book as a great work of feminist range- my interest was piqued. And I did like the book enough to follow through to the end but it felt less like feminist rage unleashed and more like women defeated. So maybe my expectations were tainted by the review but I walked away feeling a bit defeated.
