This book was so bad it doesn't deserve analysis. There are about four different not well thought through plots. Every single character is a horrid horrid person. The author is way to invested in rape. Just no from beginning to end this was shit.

This was disappointing. From everything about it it seemed it was going to be about a woman finding humor in being a non-traditional feminine woman. Instead it's about a woman who desperately wants to be the traditional idea of femininity. So for me, who says fuck you to gender norms, this was almost painful to read. Except from a technical standpoint it's really well written and not painful to read.

Yeah I definitely missed my window on reading these. The writing style is so geared for juvenile readers I found it annoying.

Tom is an inconsiderate jackass at times yes. However, the author really dropped the ball not to realize what a jackass Milo is too. Milo doesn't want Tom to pay for things because Milo's mom was in an abusive relationship... Ok if you think Tom is going to end up being abusive you shouldn't be with him what an utter lack of trust undermining the relationship. Also Tom's allowed to make plans with your mom without consulting you Milo wtf

If someone wrote a book that's sole purpose was to illustrate what red flags in a relationship look like in practice it would be this book. Since that wasn't this book's purpose I can only say that this book is trash. On top of having all the red flags it was also really conservative, which separately, gross. Avoid at all cost.

Deep breath. Right so one there are more groups pf people than black and white but more importantly YOU CANNOT BE RACIST TOWARDS WHITE PEOPLE THAT'S NOT A THING

Nothing gets in my crawl more than an author putting their dumbass misogynistics beliefs in a woman's mouth... There's just too much to unpack in this passage...

So I liked most of this book. Jacob is a great writer and open and honest about their life up to college graduation. (I'm not sure why the book stops there or why grad school wasn't ever an option but it's their book). The one disappointment I have with it is that for a book about gender nonconforming and gender as a construct it maintains the feminine/masculine binary which just galls me.

I almost didn't request this from #netgalley I was so disappointed in the previous book, but I'm very glad I did. This was better written and it was nice to wrap up the big case. My only complaint is that it was super easy to put down so the thriller aspect of it technically fails. Still recommend the books in this universe. âš  will want whiskey or beer after âš 

This is a weird one to review. Right up until the 50% mark this book was great.... And then everything after the 50% mark had me literally yelling at it. The police work is wrong. The big tough protagonists go reactionary. They have no plan, ever. I listened to thw audio which didn't help because the narrator read in an incredibly perky voice. It starts with such potential but man does it flame out hard.

And now the abusive parents have shown up to replace character development #strugglingthrough

The abusive ex was just brought back in to the plot because the author needed a cheap way for the one lead to express his love for the other lead. No why have a healthy communicative relationship when you can just shoehorn in an abusive ex. So gross

So much of this book is the author just telling the reader what the characters are feeling. They didn't take the time to flesh it out and then show us through good dialogue or the characters' actions. Instead it's like reading a character cheat sheet. Not really great writing.

"I wish a man would put me on a pedestal"... No ew no. I wish authors would stop the idolizing is romantic thing. It's not romantic is objectifing.

Sometimes I read remixes of classics. Most of the time they don't work. Holy cow does this one work. And Zoboi adds to PP by introducing gentrification to the storyline. I loved every second reading this. 10/10 #streetlit #yafic #gorgeousbooks

Amazing! The asides can take the reader out of the narrative and they do lessen the overall tension of the entire series (including one's not yet written). However, it's just such a fun installment if a bit overlong.

I don't know nearly enough about the history of Spain, especially Franco, to fully grasp everything these books touch on, but purely from the writing these are some of the most atmospheric books I've read. Carlos Ruiz Zafon writes beautifully. He manages to write fully realistic narratives that I fully expect to turn in to magical realism simply from the writing. I don't want to live in this world but I would like to visit the Cemetery.

It's not that this book is bad, it's more that it's treading the same ground as the last book with bonus relationship drama shoehorned in. I keep getting to the end of chapters and being surprised that there's more to read.

So unimpressed with basically everything. The pacing is off. The characters have no chemistry and the relationship has no building. Believes that the needs of the few (wealthy and unjust) outweigh the starving masses. Like christ there were compromises the author could have gone with but everything in the entire book is black or white, no grays.

The main characters are just so unsuited. The pacing is too slow. I'm at 75% and it feels like I'm going to be reading this forever.

The naivete of Perry is just annoying. I'm finding it painful to read through. "oh maybe the person everyone finds terrible is a terrible person, but he's so wealthy why would he be awful, must be everyone else that's wrong". With such great logic how did he ever get to his position.

I gave this back to our Teen Librarian & told her to give it to every angry girl/young woman we have. Which she then promptly stuck it into her own stack to check out 😂 As a narrative this falls down at places. It's under 100 pages long & could have used a few more to flesh it all out. Mi-Na really doesn't think through her actions & I'm not convinced the author did either. Still totally recommend to all the angry (espec #queer) women out there.

A lot of these stories were never published and yeah I can see why. Gonna keep going cause I'm still fairly early into his career.

This was OK. A re-telling or the origins of Ursula, except without the how she became the Sea Witch parts. Seafarer's Kiss is a touch dark fantasy and a touch too slowly paced but the concepts are good. #littlemermaid #ff #queer #other

What I wanted and was offered: a cute romance between a sassy hedgehog shifter and a werewolf. What I got: a convoluted mess of a plot with very little consistent direction or pacing. Idk if you ever played the game of Person A writes a page then Person B writes the next and so forth and so on. This is a not so well done one of those collabs. You could almost see where one writer built up to a choice and the next writer veered wildly.

Too distracted to enjoy by the fact that never, not once, did anyone ever think of just throwing flour or powder of any sort or sand or dirt on the invisible man. Voila! Not invisible anymore until he baths and dries. This is not a hard solution people "oh noes how shall we ever find him". Rolls eyes throw flour where you think he is. Aargh!!!

Why would anyone be friends with Baz? Thoroughly dislikable character. The bad guy was a bad patische and a complete farce. The plot barely held together. I realised my behavior wasn't ideal but my mother believed I was demon possessed and the headmistress was in mourning for Scotland. It was hard to be normal.

I'm so used to sci fi from the 80s feeling dated, but this holds up so well. This could have been written this year. I'd call it a small space opera. It has a fantastic set of characters from all different backgrounds. There's just enough hints to see that there's a bigger world out there than the reader is given. I'm not sure what I feel about this book. The translation is a little clunky but the narrative can be a bit info dumpy as well. Combined means there are entire chunks of just really boring passages. Interesting half historical half fiction account of the real life and death of Mr Watson. Unfortunately I am not a big Florida history fan. The different narrators were all written with the same voice making it neigh impossible to tell them apart. This is one of those unique bails where I didn't bail because the book was poorly written or made arguments I find reprehensible. No I bailed because I just can't take dark fantasy right now. Beautifully written. Emotionally moving even when you know the stories it's based on and so know what's coming. Miller did a fabulous job interpreting the myths into understandable language. Meet Attila Ambrus aka the Whiskey Robber a hockey goalie come pelt smuggler come bank robber in 1990s Hungary. The later half of the book gets a little repetitive as he just keeps robbing banks with ridiculous ease. His story is a hilariously insane but the book sort of ends in a down mood.

I've really enjoyed this series. I'm sad but understand the author's is physically unable to publish more faster. This book really should have suffered from just way too much happening but I never felt that at all. My only complaint (and this is one I have with a lot of books) is that it has a young male character who just acts like no young person I've ever met sometimes. #gaynecromancer #overpoweredandiloveit #randomlanguage

These comics were a little pretentious at times but I enjoyed so many of them. They're dry, sometimes absurdist humor. #cartoons

As I figured as a narrative this is wretched to read. However as a document about revolutionaries between the Decembrists and the Bolsheviks this is fascinating, but yeah if you have no interest or knowledge about those revolutionaries do not read this. As someone who finds that time of Russia interesting I actually enjoyed most of this. The second half does drag a bit more than the first though.
