I love an unlikeable narrator as much as the next person, but all the characters were one-sided and this dragged for me. Koch can definitely write, but I almost threw up reading some of his descriptions (the abscess in the eye really got me 👀). I can see why some people might like it but I just was bored reading it.

This book was laugh out loud funny, but also really touched on some deep topics, including severe depression and alcoholism. He could toggle between the funny anecdotes about peeing the bed and his lowest moments without making it seem contrived, or like he was making light of something serious. But it is a little disorganized. It's not so much a memoir as a collection of essays, but I loved it all the same.

Really makes you think about all the choices you've ever made in life. I thought it was a bit slow in the beginning and I wasn't sure if I wanted to finish, but the last 100 pages flew by. If you're looking for a trippy read that makes you rethink anything you've ever done, and what you'd do to get the life you want, then this book is for you 👍🏻

Just started a new job and have been crazy busy so I didn't finish in time for the litsy book club chat. But this book was so good. I went an extra stop on the subway just to finish it. Gaysi weaves the two story lines together so well, and I appreciate how she didn't shy away from anything. And the writing was just beautiful

I had a hard time putting this book down, the plot was so compelling. However, I'm not a big fan of Emma Cline's writing style. Strange word choices and too many fragments for me. But there are some good insights into the fragility and flexibility of a teen girl's mind.
