Absolutely stunning- a beautiful reflection on family, fate and immortality (and a love letter to San Francisco, to boot). Simon's section and Ruby's character took my breath away.
This should be on everyone's "to-read" list for 2018.

So much teenage nostalgia! Overall the book was saccharine, but satisfying.
So-so, would not recommend. Disjointed accounts- it felt like a chore to finish
When a reluctant middle school reader is stuck on what to read next, this book has never failed.
The writing is fresh, honest, and so powerful. The subject matter is painful, but also inspiring. The resilience of young people and portraits of Starr's family keep this book close to my heart.
Want to get kids to love reading? Put in their hands honest books that reflect what's going on in our communities.
All time favorite book- the kind that has you sitting and crying for the last 20 pages because it is just THAT beautiful. "I bet sometimes you could find all the mysteries of the universe in someone's hand"
Top pick in he category of "Books that suck in the most reluctant middle school reader". How can you not love anything by Sherman Alexi?
"And yet he had loved her. A Bookish girl heedless of her beauty, unconscious of her effect. She'd been prepared to live her life alone but from the moment he'd known her he'd needed her"
"Sometimes you break your heart in the right way, if you know what I mean"
"Maybe you have to live through the worst of times to recognize the best of times when they come to you"
"He will always be your brother, and you will always be his sister"
What I meant to say was "You will always love him and he will always love you. Even thought he is not here, he was here and no one can change that. No one can take that away from you. If energy is neither created nor destroyed, and if your brother was here will his humor, his kindness, his hopes, doesn't this mean he still exists somewhere, even if it's not here?"
