What would you do if you were to wake up and find your husband's bloodied corpse pinning you to the bed?
The Beast of Bridde Place is a new gothic mystery novel set in Victorian London, complete with detectives on the case and mythical folklore. How did Victor die and what is the secret that his young bride is hiding?

An eerily prescient, dreamlike tale of a world affected by climate change; continents erased, knowledge lost but human nature consistent. A compelling and thought-provoking read. This really is a little-known treasure.

I struggled to get into it but about halfway through it really gripped me and I couldn't put it down. It was a facinating trip both through the twentieth century and the entire life of an individual as he experienced love, life, politics and social change. The last 100 pages really took an emotional hold of me and resonated deeply as the protagonist reflected upon his life; the decisions he made, those he loved and lost, roads not taken...

A chilling ghost story. Well written and a good, short read.

Pickpick

A whistle-stop tour through the first half of twentieth century London, comprising reflections on love, war, childhood, humanity, social change and sibling rivalry, with a huge dose of magic to boot. A recommended read.

Confused about this book. I started off loving it more than Mockingbird but then the inherent racism started to get to me. Was even Scout racist underneath her outer layer? It was a book that raised its head above the parapet during the time it was written so hats off to Harper Lee. And awful if she was exploited in the publishing of this book in her final years.

An interesting and unusual book, containing several different shifting narratives in the guise of a dream-like crime novel. It very subtly and gently portrays the horror of living in a fascist dictatorship. What is most horrifying is the realisation that the characters living in fear of the regime are its creators.

Thank you so much to everyone who has welcomed me to Litsy.

The bookshelves reflect my chaotic life and mind!

Does anyone on here like to write?

LiterRohde I spent years thinking it was a waste of time and no one wants to read what I have to say anyway. Now that I‘m in a better place after a decade of not living (I know, TMI), I‘ve decided to slowly just get back to writing for myself; because I really do feel better when I read and write. And if others like it - bonus. Litsy is helping. Insta, FB, and Twitter are along for the ride. And I have a few blog ideas I just need to pull the trigger on. 6y

There were things about them which were never to be known for certain, while others were only to await another opportunity in order to reveal themselves.

Thought provoking and philosophical. A re-writing of a popular myth from a modern perspective. How much do we understand of the world around us and its infinite possibilities? How far are we constrained by the worlds we create in our minds and their imagined boundaries?

"We are in the gravitational pull of past and future. It takes huge energy - speed of light power - to break that gravitational pull." Jeanette Winterson

An enjoyable easy read which helped me switch off. Very similar to Gone Girl. A few twists and turns along the way and an accurate portrayal of alcoholism added in to boot.

KateFulfordAuthor If you need another recommendation, may I point you to my People‘s Book Prize nominated debut? Sassy female narrative, laugh out dialogue and a pacy plot. Check the link in the bio for 2 free chapters, reviews and more. 6y

A beautifully written book which perfectly captures the emotions of each character in such a subtle way. Iris Murdoch really understood the workings of human soul and knew exactly how to portray these on the page. Update- I have just finished it. A sad but predetermined ending.

Not quite as intoxicating as some of the others but maybe because of the doomed fate of the Grey sisters. My friend always says that women are the worst enemies of women. This book concurs. A good read.
