Lord Foul's Bane | Stephen R. Donaldson
Pickpick

Divorced, numb, impotent, isolated with nothing in his life but VSE and hyper vigilance to barely live through his days. He gets transported to The Land when he is almost hit by a police car. The Land is in dire peril and the only person who can save the Land is the one who believes the Land is a figment of his feverish mind. What will Covenant do? Will he go crazy? Will the Land prevail?

This is a book I have to write a review for, once I learn how to write one properly that is.
A main character you can't love or hate completely. A world dazzlingly breathtaking. The first of an amazing trilogy. YOU HAVE TO READ THIS!

readingjedi This is one of my all time favourite fantasy series. 6y

The author takes us on a journey, from the first humans to our present, telling us what happened, what might've happened, what certainly happened, and why. Backing each argument with strong precises of science, anthropology and history with an ever entertaining, slightly dark humour in a comfortable rythm. He just does all this while shattering everything you thought about our history and ourselves was true!

"We hold these truths to be self evident, that all men are created ... life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness."
So here is that line from the American Declaration of Independence translated into biological terms :
"We hold these truths to be self evident, that all men evolved differently, that they are born s certain mutable characteristics and that among these are life and the pursuit of pleasure."

I felt it had no trace left of the Harry potter world. Felt more like a cheap fanfic I. Disappointed.

A mind boggling journey of mystery, love in the ancient Islamic world of art.
Piqued my interest in learning what Islamic art meant and what the modern world and art lost with its departure.

Can you believe the bloodshed and chaos even after the 1971 war?
It was like a behind-the-scenes look at the characters and plot of the then bd stage.

The 1971 situation was already a complex quagmire. A look at it from the perspective of a Pakistani General on spot until before the war started brings a bit of clarity and a lot questions.

It's a bit biased towards the "good guys". I would've liked more scenes with the gestapo officer in it. I'm not so sure about how much the book reflects on actual war situations back then.
I don't regret diving in tho,

I've certainly enjoyed being literate but I never looked at how painful it could be to not be so. The characters speak directly to the reader, changing often. It's a new, peculiar and a very connective experience I'd say...

Oh and we're still searching for the murderer through his words. 🤘

The story and it's realistic characters come to life right before your eyes, in a dazzling setting through a thrilling plot.
I had a great time pouring through and fiddling with my concepts of life-goals, romance and magic with the characters.
