The Forgetting | Sharon Cameron

Pickpick

I'm not a fan of dystopian fiction, but this came in my Uppercase subscription. After admiring the cover, I read the first 4 paragraphs before putting it on the shelf, thinking I probably wouldn't be reading it because, dystopia. The next day, I kept thinking about what I had read and wondering what happens next...so I started reading again, and ended up really enjoying it

Pickpick

A page-turner with a surprising twist I totally did not see coming. This one has Tess, her family, and friends fighting terrorists-there were some seriously unpleasant moments and it made me think a little too much about horrors that happen in real life. Good read.

Onceuponatime Sounds great! 8y

Pickpick

Distressing history told in a straightforward, age-appropriate way, with one of the most amazing heroines ever. This is one of the 7-year-old's favorite picture books.

I liked the main character and enjoyed the mystery. The introduction of the love interest bothered me. he was insolent and even if his "undressing her with his eyes" sent her pulse racing, he seemed like a jerk. He got better, but I never warmed up to him and he was around a lot.

Tikabelle "I never warmed up to him and he was around a lot" sums up my entire dating life. ? 8y

Unhooked | Lisa Maxwell

Reading Unhooked along with the Instagram based book club, notyourmamasbookclub. The blurbs at the front of the book gave me pause, I'm not sure I'm looking forward to the Neverland of my nightmares or a "dark, violent" story. But I'm ten chapters in and so far I'm enjoying it

Mehso-so

I love girl detective stories and liked this use of historical characters - intelligent, AMAZING girls from history. Didn't mind the liberties with ages and facts (and they were all set straight in the endnotes), but too often the prose was... distractingly awkward.
