The email I've been waiting for! 😍
While it never felt as grounded in reality as Weir's #TheMartian, I still had fun reading/listening, due largely to Rosario Dawson's performance in the audio book. Still, fun for those who enjoy the "sci" in sci-fi, and very quick to get through.
I can't believe how underappreciated this book is! #LeonUris can make history exciting and moving like few can. More people know him from his epic novel #Exodus about the formation of modern-day Israel after WW2, but this intimate tale of Jewish rebellion in the Polish ghetto is so riveting and intense, you can't put it down.
Disappointing, considering how wonderful #EverythingIsIlluminated and #ExtremelyLoudAndIncrediblyClose were. I found a lot of parallels to my own life in Here I Am, but at it's heart this book felt far more cynical than Foer's previous works. This removed me from the characters and left me without anyone to root for. Perhaps that was intentional, but it kept me from being invested.
Took me way too long to finally pick this up. Now that I have, I can't wait to get started on #WeWereEightYearsInPower, even though I know what a tragedy it is.
For my first post, I have to go with one of my all-time favorites. A brilliant Faustian and surreal tale set amidst the Russian revolution. For any new fans of #LincolnInTheBardo, this has a similarly grim yet absurdist feel. Can't recommend enough.
